Shadows of the Past | Crew quests Risen 3 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Way to unlock the quest: Talk to Mendoza.
Quest giver: Mendoza
After Mendoza joins your crew (more about this in the walkthrough for the crew quest "The Inquisitor"), you can have a long conversation with him, about the protagonist's lost soul. Towards the end of the conversation, you will learn that you will be able to contact anyone in the Underworld. In each case, you need tome personal belonging of the person you want to contact.
Note - may leave your crew permanently and it may happen if you manage to raise your soul factor to high levels, i.e. around 90-100 points. After you come close to Mendoza, you will learn that he received his soul shard back and he disappears. If you talk to Bones about this, you will be able to figure out that he did not want Mendoza to be a bad influence to your character and that he transferred his soul shard over to the ghost. If you increase the soul level and you do not want the current quest to be canceled, avoid Mendoza up until the moment, at which your soul parameter goes down again.
One of the people that you can contact is captain Steelbeard, i.e. the father of your character. Summon him, while talking to Mendoza, and you will learn that gnome Jaffar who lives on Taranis has Steelbeard's hat. Reach Taranis and go to the Mages' camp in the center of the isle. Find Jaffar. During the conversation, you can demand that the hat be returned to you immediately, which will earn you negative points, or explain to Jaffar the situation (positive soul points). Regardless of what you did, you will receive the Old Steelbeard's Hair from the gnome (200 Glory Points).
After you have obtained the hair, go to rest thanks to which, during your next visit to the Underworld, you mill meet up with Steelbeard. During the conversation, you will learn that to get his treasure, you need to go to Taranis. After you sail your ship there, Head towards the Northern part of the map (the area to the North of the Mages' camp) and swim up to the islet shown in the above screenshot. Deal with the monsters here and find the X mark on the ground. Dig up the treasure chest (100 Glory Points) and collect all the Purses.
During the conversation with Mendoza you can bring up the topic of contacting a ghost and allow the Inquisitor to be creative and suggest the ghost you can talk to. Mendoza singles out Mara, i.e. the Titan Lady. If you have not yet talked to Mara go to sleep and, if you did, listen to Mendoza's hints. Regardless of the situation, in which you talked to Mara, you will learn about a treasure on an islet neighboring Kila.
After you get to the isle, head towards the islet, in the North-Eastern corner of the map, thanks to which you will find the Fragment of Destroyed Mara shown in the above screenshot (200 Glory Points). After you use the bed, you will meet up with Mara again. Your character will ask her for more help, thanks to which he receives 5 Soul Dust (100 Glory Points).
If, while exploring the game world, you have found a Golden Brooch, during the conversation with Mendoza, you will learn that it belonged to Captain Garcia. Next time you use the bed, you will meet up with Garcia in the Underworld. The pirate will have to share information on the location of his treasure. You will receive detailed instructions and directed towards Kila.
You can start searching for Garcia's treasure only after you have progressed to the third chapter of the game's story line, because it has been hidden in the Forbidden Valley, In the Western part of the isle, across the large gate. The passage to the valley unlocks as a result of progress in the game. After you get to the valley, start exploring the central part. Find a big, fallen tree leading to the ledge with altar (the above screenshot). Before you examine the altar, eliminate the monsters here, including one Soldier of the Oracle.
Approach the Unusual Stone Shrine, interact with it and say the password that you received from Garcia in the Underworld (Garcia is the strongest!). This will make several Skeletons appear, so hop back and deal with the undead. After the fight, approach the altar and collect the Greedy Monkey (100 Glory Points).
After you start the "Pirate Alliance" main quest, given to you by Admiral Alvarez on Antigua, while talking to Mendoza you can bring up the matter contacting the undead pirate captains. Singles out Slayne as a potential candidate and tells you to go to Grace, who maintained intimate relations with him. You will find Grace on Antigua in the blacksmith's building. Talk to the woman to receive Slayne's Handkerchief (200 Glory Points).
After the conversation with Grace, go to sleep to meet up with Slayne in the Underworld. You will have the captain share information about the treasure that you need to head to Calador for. The treasure is to the North of the Demon Hunters' Citadel, i.e. next to the path shown in the above screenshot that neighbors the lava river. Find the red X mark and use the shovel to dig up the treasure (100 Glory Points). You can now plunder Slayne's, chest collect several valuable items and a Love Letter.
During one of the conversations with Mendoza you can ask him to contact you with a Titan Lord. As a result, Mendoza points you to the artifact connected with Lord Ursegor. To get the item, you will have to get to Tacarigua. After you do, stay on the beach, where you start the exploration of the isle and go West. Soon, you will reach a small encampment on the beach. Explore it and collect, from the chest, Ursegor's Flaming Eye (200 Glory Points).
Go to sleep now, which will allow you to meet up with Ursegor in the Underworld. Make the Titan Lord ensure your character with support. You will learn that Ursegor can summon a powerful monster, thanks to which you will gain in strength. Return to the ship and head towards Antigua. After you get there, go to the deadlands in its Northern part. Close to the entrance to the cave with crystal portal, you will run into a Burning Golem. During the fight with the golem, rely on melee weapons, or magic and remember, of course, about dodging his strong blows (especially the charged ground slams). For defeating the monster, you will be rewarded with 500 Glory Points.
If you have performed all of the above actions correctly, you can talk to Mendoza again, thanks to which you will end this quest.
Rewards for completing the quest:
- 400 Glory Points
