How to unlock the quest: through conversation with Shax.

Quest giver: Shax (point 27 on the map).

Shax can be found near the swamps.

Shax is a friendly creature, balancing between the world of the living and the Underworld. This character can be found near the swamps, in the Southern section of the island (point 27 on the map). During the conversation Shax will ask the Nameless Hero to help him with the retrieval of his belongings, which are held in a chest in the wilderness. If you accept his request, he will temporarily join the party and give the Nameless Hero a Shax's Chest Key.

The chest can only be examined after you've defeated the Shadow Lord.

Shax's Chest can be located to the North of this quest's starting place (point 28 on the map), or to be more specific, in the location where one of the Shadow Lords is (Shadow Lord of Betrayal). If you haven't killed the enemy yet, you will have to do it before you can examine the contents of the chest. From Shax's Chest you will collect Shax's Bequest. Speak with him to unlock another side quest.

Note - the lair of the Shadow Lord is best visited during the completion of a side quest "The Shadow Lord of Betrayal", given to you by Magnus. Shax can help you to defeat the powerful enemy - it comes with a certain risk, but your companion shouldn't die on this duel with the Shadow Lord.
