Muskets are the best for attacking opponents at long distance - Combat with ranged weapons - Risen 3: Titan Lords - Game Guide and Walkthrough
Muskets are the best for attacking opponents at long distance

At first glance, there seem to be many upsides to ranged combat, in Risen 3, although it is limited in a variety of ways. These are the most important issues connected with this fighting style:

  • If you are using a ranged weapon as your primary weapon, each attack must be preceded with aiming at the opponent. The filling up, orange circle denotes the chances that you have, of taking a successful shot and, if you haste too much, or if you are too far away from the monster (out of range) you may miss.
  • Muskets are the best kind of weapon for attacking at a long range. On the other hand, in melee, shotguns are better. You can strive for proficiency at using only one type of weapon, or allow yourself more versatility.
  • Apart from ranged weapons that are used to launch regular attacks, it is also a good idea to have a secondary weapon on you, which means pistols, crossbows and throwing knives. It is best to use them in between the individual basic attacks.
  • For each ranged weapon, you need ammo and regardless of the weapon type, ammo supplies, usually, deplete quickly. As a result, it is a good idea to return to your favorite traders that sell ammo, because you are unable to satisfy your needs during exploration only (unless you use ranged weapon only occasionally). Apart from that, it is best to pick those of the traders that offer the best prices (e.g. 100 musket rounds for 100 GP).
  • During a ranged fight, it is very important that you remain in constant movement and do not allow your opponents to land melee attacks. Your character cannot block these with ranged weapons in his hands. What he can do, though, is take hops and hit the opponent with the weapon (e.g. the stock of the rifle), although this deals only minor damage.
  • If, while developing your character, you focus on using ranged weapons, it is always to have a companion with you, who is effective at attracting the opponents' attention. This will allow you to take well-aimed shots more often.
  • Some opponents are completely immune to attacks with firearms and, what is meant here, are mainly golems. This means that it is always a good idea to have a melee weapon on you, or a spell.
  • A very important matter is the development of attributes and proficiencies connected with ranged combat. As for the latter, put your points, mainly, into the skills that support the type of the weapon that you most often use (e.g. the musket), and which increase your chances of a critical hit.
