Advancing Among the Guardians | Side Quests - Taranis Risen 3 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
How to unlock: talk to Magnus.
Quest giver: Magnus (number 12 on the map)
Attention - this quest is available only after you join the Guardians!
You can start this quest after joining the Guardians and it will promote you from a Cadet to a Guardian. To make it so, you have to meet talk to Magnus (number 12 on the map). During the conversation, ask about the promotion and you will unlock the quest and learn what you have to do.
Attention - click all the dialogue options, as Magnus will give you 200 gold.
One of the characters that you can help is Ilvar, who can be found on the mage quarters (number 16 on the map). During the conversation with Ilvar, ask him whether he has a quest for you. Ilvar will give you five Ilvar's Prism Stones and you are to distribute them among some people in the camp.
Wells, Hardwick and Talbot are moving around the camp, but they can be usually found near the target board (number 13 on the map), in the tavern (number 4 on the map) or near the main gate (number 7 on the map). There won't be any problems with giving them the Prisms. It is worth mentioning that when talking to Wells, you can ask him to pay you for the Prism. This way, you will earn 100 gold. Tell Talbot to ask for a promotion and you will obtain some Grog, and 2 magic crystals.
The fourth person who has to receive a Prism is Garelt, who can be found in a mine, near the mage camp (number 15 on the map). If you haven't caused any trouble to him during the "New Allies" quest, he will accept the Prism right away. However, if you have complained about him to Frinc, Garelt will be angry with you. The situation can be resolved in two ways. You can pay him 1000 gold, but it's quite a lot of money, so it would be better to go back to Magnus and tell him about Garelt blackmailing you (100 glory points). You will receive Magnus' Repeal, which you need to show to Garelt (200 glory points).
The last person on your list is Cox. You won't find him in the camp, but in a mine located to the west of the mage quarters (where you were killing monsters earlier). The entrance to the mine is shown on the picture above (number 12d on the map). After entering the mine, find Cox and give him the Prism (200 glory points). The guard will give you 3 magic crystals. You can now return to Ilvar and tell him about completing the task. The mage will give you 10 magic crystals and teach you Vision of the Shadows.
The next person that you need to talk to is a mage named Mauricio. This character spends his time teaching cadets (number 12b on the map). However, in the evening, you should look for him in the mage quarters (number 16 on the map). When talking to Mauricio, tell him that you are a cadet and take part in the first trial.
Attention - During the conversation, it is good to purchase the Fire Fist spell, as it will be helpful in completing the trial.
Mauricio's trial consists of killing a Tough Ore Golem, which can be found north of the mage camp (number 12e on the map), with a narrow mountain path leading to him. The easiest method to weaken the golem is to use the Fire Fist spell that Mauricio suggested you to buy. However, it is not necessary to win, because you can use for example cold weapon. Don't use firearms, as they are of poor value when fighting golems. Remember about dodging the enemy's strong attacks, particularly when he slams the ground. After defeating the golem (600 glory points), return to Mauricio and tell him about your victory. You will receive 10 magic crystals. Ask Mauricio about the next task and you will start the "Waterproof" quest.
Attention - in order to become a Guardian, you have to complete the "Waterproof" quest as well.
The third person that Magnus told you about is Gordon, a local blacksmith. You can usually find him in his house in the mage camp (number 12c on the map). Tell Gordon that you are a cadet and offer him your service. Gordon will send you to Calador to buy some Pure Iron Ore and will give you 1000 gold for this purpose.
Attention - Info about buying Pure Iron Ore can be found in the chapter about Calador side quests.
After obtaining Pure Iron Ore, return to Gordon to give it to him and you will receive 200 glory points, 100 gold and 10 magic crystals.
You can earn Magnus' respect by defeating the Lord of Betrayal, who stays on the Taranis island. The creature has its liar in the south-western part of the area (number 12a on the map). More info about it can be found in the description of the "The Shadow Lord of Betrayal" quest.
Magnus himself can be challenged into a duel during the conversation. If you decide to fight him, focus on dodging his strong melee attacks. Stay on the move, no matter whether you fight hand-to-hand or from distance. Perform your attacks in series, without pauses, especially when Magnus has low health. It will prevent him from regenerating his health bar. Defeating Magnus will earn you 200 glory points.
Attention - during the fight, be careful not to attack any other people that are watching. It may cause them to attack the Nameless Hero.
After completing all of the tasks described above, return to Magnus (number 12 on the map) and ask him whether you can now be a Guardian. Magnus will agree and you will be promoted.
Rewards:
- 1000 glory points
- 20 magic crystals
- Unlocking the "A Guardian's Armor" quest.
