When visiting merchants in Starfield, you may encounter the problem of not being able to sell contraband - illegally smuggled goods that can get you in trouble in UC. On this page of the guide, we have compiled examples of locations where you can sell contraband for large amounts of credits.
Loot treated as contraband
- Contraband are illegal goods whose possession is treated as smuggling. You can recognize it by the yellow icon next to the item name (example in the picture).
- If you have contraband on board, be careful in systems colonized bu UC. Once in orbit, you can get scanned for contraband and if it is detected, you can get arrested or attacked. We have described this topic in more detail on a separate page How to hide contraband from a scanner?.
Stolen equipment has a red icon - it is not considered contraband, although it will also be confiscated if you are arrested. We discussed this on a separate page Where to sell stolen items?.
The Key - base of the Crimson Fleet
The Crimson Fleet is a faction of star space. Finding them is not easy. Since they are criminals, they do not have a publicly accessible base. We described the topic of making contact with pirates step by step on a separate page How to join the Crimson Fleet?. The most important steps are:
- Detection of contraband by scanner, getting arrested and starting a spy mission Deep Cover.
- Complete the next mission Rook Meets King.
Ultimately, you will learn that the Key space station is in the Kryx system. Contact the space pirates first so you can dock in their base.
- Once you have access to the Key, you can sell contraband to all merchants in the station. Each of them will accept items that come from smuggling.
- Additional note - There may be a situation where the merchants won't have enough credits to buy all of your contraband. The merchants' inventory refreshes every 48 hours. Wait or rest for 48 hours, and the merchants' credits will be restored.
The Den space station
- An alternative good place to sell contraband is the Den space station.
- You have to look for the station in the Wolf system. It is one of the systems adjacent to Alpha Centauri, which you could visit at the start of the campaign. Just plan a flight to the neighboring system. The station is in the orbit of the planet Chthonia and you can dock there right away.
- After entering the station, get to the Trade Authority shop. There you will find a merchant, Marcel Duris, who accepts goods classified as contraband.
