It's likely you could approach Starfield anew a few times, changing your character's appearance or giving them different starting skills. This page will explain can you have several characters saved at once and can you switch between them without risking your saves.
Creating a second character
- While playing Starfield, it's possible you'd like to create a new character and start a new playthrough. You may want to build your protagonist differently, change their gender or appearance.
- By default, choosing the Continue option in the main menu will have you play as your most recent character. You can click New Game instead.
- You should know starting a new game won't erase your progress from the previous campaign. The saves from separate playthroughs are also separate.
Reloading a previous playthrough
After creating a new character and starting a new playthrough, you can switch between your playthroughs freely. The main menu features the load game option. It comes in two main variants:
- Show a specific character's saves - choose the name you gave them in the character creator. This displays all the saves made during this playthrough.
- Show all saves - displays all saves chronologically. You must read their descriptions to learn which save belongs to which character.
Separate saves could also come in handy in New Game Plus, to start a fresh campaign or keep playing with the same character after beating the main storyline. You'll learn more on the page Is there NG+?.
