In Starfield, you can romance with four companions, including Sam Coe - a former Freestar Ranger and a current member of the Constellation. Below, you will find out how to gain his favor and win his heart.

Sam Coe's preferences

You will meet Sam Coe and his teenage daughter, Cora, basically at the beginning of the game. He will accompany you during The Empty Nest main quest. Then he will become a team member and you will be able to travel with him.

1. Sam is a good man who avoids violence. Therefore, try to use Persuasion as often as possible and reason with your enemies, instead of attacking them immediately (at least at the beginning of The Empty Nest quest) - this will help you gain Sam's favor.

1. If possible, let Sam speak during conversations, e.g. during the confrontation with his father in the Empty Nest quest. This will be possible when the name [Sam Coe] appears before a given dialogue option.
2. If you repeatedly choose actions that Sam approves - each time a notification in the top right corner of the screen informs about it - he will want to talk to you. At such moments, Sam will let you know about it, but if you miss it and don't hear his suggestion, go to the task menu and check if there is any information about it in Minor.
3. He will like it if you join the Freestar Collective. This can be done after a conversation with Emma Wilcox in The Rock in Akila City.
4. If you decide to join the Crimson Fleet, Sam will be very angry with you.
5. If you make Sam too angry with your actions, he may decide to leave your party for good. You can convince him to stay using Persuasion.
6. Remember to choose options that start with [Flirt] when talking to Sam if you want to romance him. Also, don't forget to chat with his daughter, Cora.

Matters of the Hart - a special companion mission

If you make decisions that Sam agrees with, you'll unlock a special side quest at some point. It is crucial in developing the romance.

1. Sam will want to talk to you with Cora. If you agree to this, you will find out that the teenager is worried about her mother Lillian.
2. After the conversation, you will unlock the Matters of the Heart mission - you must complete it to commit to Sam officially.
3. To start the Matters of the Heart, you must first complete the Freestar Collective's quest, Shadows in Neon.

1. At the start of the quest, you have to go to Neon, ask about Lillian, and then look for her. Sam and Cora will accompany you throughout the entire mission.
2. Then you'll have to fly to planet McClure II in the McClure system, defeat the enemies there, and talk to Lillian.
3. Now you have to help Cora's mother - defeat the ship in the Rasalhague system .
4. The mission will end on planet Andromas III, where you have to defeat several waves of enemies. The fight is challenging due to the number of opponents, so prepare well for the confrontation.

1. After completing the quest , Sam will want to talk to you in Akila City.
2. Go there and talk to Sam - during the dialogue, you can decide whether to be in a relationship with the man or remain good friends .

Marrying Sam

Some time after completing the Matters of the Hart quest, you will be able to marry Sam Coe.

1. Sam will want you to talk to his daughter about the relationship between you.
2. After speaking with Cora, go back to Sam - then you'll be able to propose to him.
3. This will unlock the Commitment: Sam Coe quest for you.
4. The ceremony will take place in Akila City at the Coe Estate. After its completion, you will receive a gift from Sam, credits and experience points.
