Are there marital relationships in Starfield? This is the question you may be asking yourself as you follow the romance and relationship development in the game. Our guide answers the question of whether a character can enter into a permanent relationship with another character.

Starfield has romances, but you may wonder whether there is an option to marry someone. On this guide page, we explain whether you can marry someone.

Unlocking marriage

1. The hero you create in Starfield is single by default at the start of the game, i.e. they are not in a relationship with any other character. You must get to know and establish a closer relationship with another person in the game yourself.
2. Same-sex and opposite-sex marriages are available in the game, but the list of potential candidates for a relationship is very limited. Getting married is only available for NPCs you can romance - their list can be found on the All romances page.
3. Marriage is the final step in a romance. You must first unlock the steady relationship dialogue option. After the NPC accepts your proposal, the wedding ceremony quest will begin. It differs slightly depending on who you are marrying, but generally you have to reach the place where the wedding was planned and take the marriage vow.

Is marriage permanent?

1. Getting married will not irreversibly block other relationships. You can part ways with the character you are married to. You need to talk to your other half, discuss your relationship, and choose the breakup option (example in the picture).
