Starfield is full of interesting planets with many locations to explore. Landing on them, however, may not be intuitive. When you reach a solar system, the first thing you should do is to open the map. You do this by pressing the M key or the button marked with three horizontal lines on the controller - the map is in the upper left corner of the menu.
Now just click on the location you are interested in and select Land. You will do this by holding down the X key/button on the keyboard or controller. Then a loading screen will appear and after a moment you will see a short cut-scene of your landing. Now you can leave the ship and explore the planet.
It's worth noting at the end that Starfield, like Skyrim or Fallout 4, offers a great deal of freedom of exploration, so you don't have to land only on those planets where you have to complete a mission. There is nothing standing in the way of taking a break from the quests and spending some time exploring various locations, where you can find a lot of interesting things.
