The Deep Cover quest in Starfield will allow you to start cooperating the Crimson Fleet faction and later join them. Our walkthrough describes 2 main ways to start the mission, conversations with Saoirse Bowden and Adler Kemp on Cydonia, and getting the debt back from Karl Fielding.
- Starting the quest line for the Crimson Fleet faction
- Conversations with Commander Ikande and Lieutenant Toft
- Conversation with Saoirse Bowden on Cydonia
- Getting money from Karl Fielding
Starting the quest line for the Crimson Fleet faction
- The Crimson Fleet is a faction of space pirates and is the only major faction that hides its presence in the galaxy. You cannot immediately visit the Fleet's headquarters even if you know its location. You must first make enough progress in its quest line.
- There are 2 ways to unlock this quest. The first method is to get caught while breaking the law in a system belonging to the UC. The easiest way to do this is by having contraband on board your ship and not hiding it - we described this in detail on the How to join the Crimson Fleet? page.
- You will be automatically taken aboard the UC Vigilance ship. You will find yourselves in a cell and in order to avoid prison you must agree to help in finding the Crimson Fleet.
- The second method is advancing in the storyline of the UC Vanguard faction. Complete the Grunt Work quest, which we described in the chapter dedicated to this faction's missions.
- You will receive the described mission without having to break the law. You have to fly to the UC Vigilance ship yourself - it is stationed in the orbit of the Phobos moon in the Sol system (the picture above).
Conversations with Commander Ikande and Lieutenant Toft
In both of the above cases, there are 2 characters that you have to meet aboard UC Vigilance:
- Commander Ikande - he will give you a general plan to make contact with the Crimson Fleet;
- Lieutenant Toft - you will receive a separate quest from her, Hard Evidence, about providing her with various audio and text evidence of illegal pirate activity.
Conversation with Saoirse Bowden on Cydonia
- Leave the deck of UC Vigilance and return to your ship. You must fly to the Cydonia base on Mars in the Sol system.
- Saoirse Bowden runs the Trade Authority branch in Cydonia. Bring up the topic of the illegal Aurora delivery in conversation, which might interest the Crimson Fleet. You can bribe her with 1,000 credits or use another option if, for example, you have the appropriate trait. Eventually, Saoirse will have to send you to Adler Kemp as a contact for the Crimson Fleet.
Getting money from Karl Fielding
- Adler Kemp is in the Broken Spear bar. Give him an Aurora sample and tell him that Saoirse sent you.
- Kemp will promise to help you contact the Crimson Fleet, but first you have to help him collect the debt from Karl Fielding.
Go to the living quarters in Cydonia. Karl Fielding is sitting on the floor - you have several options:
- Pay the debt for Karl - you have to give Adler 3,000 credits from your own pocket (you can rob Karl first - he should have several hundred credits).
- Successful persuasion will convince Karl to give you the full amount.
- Murder Karl - if you start the fight, make sure that none of the bystanders die.
Return to Adler to settle the debt. He promised to put you in contact with Naeva Mora from the Crimson Fleet. You will receive XP and 5,800 credits. You will also start the Rook Meets King quest.
