Starfield features New Game Plus, letting you transfer some of your progress after completing a playthrough to a new playthrough. On this page you'll learn what is retained during NG+ and what must be acquired anew.
The following descriptions contain some spoilers, for example, about how quests are constructed. We haven't spoiled any key story moments or the ending, though.
How to unlock New Game Plus?
- New Game Plus lets you play through Starfield again while keeping some of the progress from your previous playthrough. This is a separate option from postgame, described in more detail on a separate page, Can you keep playing after completing the main story?.
- It's easy to unlock NG+ - simply complete the entire main storyline (19 main quests) and watch the main ending. After the end credits, you'll automatically start a NG+ playthrough. You will be immediately moved on board your ship in the Narion system.
NG+ rules
- The character creator is completely absent in BG+ - you'll play as the same character you've created before. You could have also chosen who to side with during your first playthrough - this choice is also retained during New Game Plus.
- The only ship you'll retain in NG+ is the Frontier, the one you've started the game with. The reward for completing the game is the Starborn Guardian - an A-class fighter. All other ships purchased in the first playthrough (e.g. Shieldbreaker) are lost.
- You'll retain your character level and skills from your previous playthrough in NG+.
- You cannot transfer your inventory to New Game Plus , that is, weapons, spacesuits, credits or consumables. You may be consoled by the fact that you will receive a unique complete outfit - Starborn Spacesuit (picture above).
- Exploration progress doesn't carry over. You'll need to research and discover the world anew. Fast travel points are also gone, and you'll need to visit them to unlock them again.
- NG+ skips the prologue in the mine. You can reach the Lodge in New Atlantis faster during One Small Step main quest and focus on the most important part of the plot, i.e. the search for artifacts. Your new allies from the Constellation will give you, e.g. basic weapons and some credits.
