Piloting spacecraft in Starfield comes with the risk of damaging the hull or receiving other types of damage. In our guide we suggest how to keep the hull in perfect condition and what are the main ways to repair the hull and restore the ship's efficiency to 100%.
Hull damage
- Damage to the hull is the most serious type of ship damage. This is due to the fact that the hull cannot repair itself - you have to restore it back to 100% efficiency on your own.
- Hostile attacks can gradually destroy the hull after you lose all your shields - information about the state of shields and the hull are in the bottom right corner (picture). You should always redirect maximum power to the shields and remember to improve the shields so that they can withstand more attacks.
Shields can regenerate, but it takes some time. If necessary, try to keep distance from enemies to reduce the risk of being hit again and interrupting the regeneration process.
How to repair the hull?
- Technicians from various ports can repair your ship. The above pictures show a technician from the landing pad in New Atlantis.
- Repairing the hull is of course not free. In our example, it cost 1,000 credits. It's best to use this option only if the ship is heavily damaged. Do not waste credits on making small repairs.
- An alternative method is to use ship parts for hull repair. You can buy parts in shops or find them as loot.
- Repairing the ship works similarly to using first aid kits. You can press the healing key while piloting the ship (the default key is 0) to repair the hull, even during a battle. Regeneration also happens over time. Every second (for a maximum of 10 seconds), you will recover a few percent of the hull.
Other types of ship damage
Besides hull damage, your ship can suffer from 2 other types of damage. They are not permanent and do not require manual repairs, but they can still be cumbersome. These types of damage are:
- System - Successful attacks can reduce the maximum power of various ship systems and make them shut down temporarily. You need to redirect power to the systems without it and wait for them to automatically restore their functionality.
- Electromagnetic - Special attacks from enemy ships can reduce the total amount of energy possessed and force compromises in energy management. You need to wait until the EM damages stop affecting your ship.
