Entangled is one of the main missions from the Starfield campaign. This walkthrough explains how to investigate the source of the distress signal on Freya III, how to reach the laboratory, how to use distortion to travel between worlds, how to disable locks, and how to choose the universe to save (Rafael's universe or Director Patel's world).

Investigating the source of the distress signal
- You can start the task while completing the main mission Final Glimpses - after reaching the planet Freya III from the Freya system, you will be forced to respond to the distress signal from the satellite.
- The Nishina research station sends an SOS signal - land on the planet next to it. You need to reach the base in the mountains (find the correct path or use a boost pack). Use the intercom. Ethan Hughes will let you in.
Following Ethan
Go inside and, after another conversation, head out after Ethan. You'll start randomly jumping between two universes and experience the same research station in two different versions:
- "Our" universe is a pre-disaster research station.
- The alternative universe is a ruined and overgrown research station, a result of a disaster, where monsters roam freely.
Meetings with Rafael and Director Patel
Initially, you won't be able to control the jumps - they'll occur automatically at certain intervals. You'll meet 2 important characters related to this mission:
- Rafael resides in the alternative universe and is the only survivor at the station after the disaster.
- Director Patel has been managing the station in our universe since before the fire. You'll meet with her in the Director's office at the station. Talk to Maria about the artifact right away.
Reaching the laboratory and examining the distortion
- Go after Maria. After jumping to an alternative universe, you'll talk again with Rafael. You'll receive an access card from him and it will immediately be used to open the door. After one of the next jumps, talk to Ethan.
- In our universe, you'll reach Maria's laboratory, where you must investigate the distortion, as shown in the picture. Stand in the laboratory.
Finding the probe control unit and recalibrating the distortion
- You'll be transported to the alternative universe, and in the room, there is an unused probe control unit, as shown in the picture.
- From now on, you can use further distortions to travel between universes at will. There are distortions in various parts of the station. Use the fact that, for instance, a blocked passage from universe 1 may be unlocked in universe 2. You can interact with each distortion multiple times.
Returning to Director Patel and getting supplies
- Upon returning to our world, talk to Maria and return to Director Patel. You can optionally pick up medical supplies from Dr. Tatiana Barakova - you can find her on the lower level.
Disabling lock in the Facilities section
- Now you can explore the subsequent parts of the station and travel between universes, thanks to distortions. Make such a decision each time you come across a closed or collapsed passage. The distortions should be somewhere around.
- In the alternative universe, you can find an access card to the laboratory - it's shown in the picture. Use it immediately on the nearby doors, and then use it again in our universe.
- During the crossing between universes, in addition to monsters from the alternative universe, you must also watch out for robots and cannons from our universe. It's best to destroy them from a long distance before they start firing.
- The computer from the mission objective is inactive in the alternative universe. Use the distortion to travel to our universe. This will allow you to activate the first computer (as shown in the picture) and disable the lock.
Disabling the lock in the Accelerator section
- Continue to rely on distortions to jump between universes. In the alternative universe, you may encounter the first of several monster queens. These are powerful monsters, around level 40, that you can either defeat or escape from.
- In the alternative universe there is the second access card, as shown in the picture. It can be used to open the Utility Closet door in our universe. There is a new distortion in the small storeroom.
- Reach the second computer, return to our universe, and remove the lock. That's not all. You need to reach the entrance to Accelerator Control and the third computer (watch out for stronger robots and turrets) to sabotage the lock.
Disabling the lock in the Storage section
- The path to the destination of the journey leads through caves from the alternative universe. Select the upper path, as shown in the picture.
- You have to reach the last computer in our universe. Interact with it to disable the lock.
Reaching the laboratory
- Near the last computer, there are stairs leading to a closed door. After jumping into the alternative universe, the door will be open (as shown in the picture).
- Another distortion will allow you to bypass the closed doors of the High Energy Research Lab.
Turning off seven power blocks in our or an alternative world
In the larger room of the laboratory, you'll receive a new mission objective. It involves using seven switches (example in the picture), and you can complete it in two ways:
- Disabling locks in the alternative universe - This will cause the post-disaster universe to remain permanently, so Director Patel and other pre-disaster NPCs will disappear. Monsters will impede your progress in achieving the mission goal.
- Using the distortion and disabling the locks in our universe - This will cause the pre-disaster universe to remain permanently, so Rafael will disappear. The turrets and robots will impede your progress in achieving the mission goal.
Disabling the probe and taking the artifact
- After pressing all seven switches, you must confirm that the version of the universe you have chosen will remain (the other one will cease to exist). Take the Lambda artifact.
Meeting with Rafael or Director Patel
- If the alternative universe endured, you must meet Rafael (use the scanner to reach him easier). Rafael can join your crew.
- If our universe survived, you have to meet with Director Patel.
In both cases the mission will end. You'll receive credits and crafting materials.
