Starfield: Can you kill every character?

Starfield features many enemies, such as pirates, and frequent combat. Are all characters killable, though? On this page, you'll learn the answer. We also list the consequences of unjustifiable slaughter.

Which characters are killable?

Outside of city areas, you can freely kill the encountered creatures and pirates dwelling in abandoned outposts. You can also attack encountered NPCs even if they don't pose a threat.Still, not all characters in Starfield are killable.

Some important characters kneel down once their health drops to zero and become invulnerable to any further damage. They'll heal back to full and return to their previous position once you leave the area.

Regular passers-by and city security forces, though, are killable. You cannot kill:

1. plot-relevant characters;
2. companions;
3. merchants.

Consequences of killing

Killing people without a reason in Starfield won't bring you much good.

1. Attacking passers-by in a secure city for no reason will turn all security hostile against you. Armed civilians will also attack you.
2. Unprovoked killings will also put a bounty on your head. Bounty hunters will harass you as you travel through outer space.
3. Furthermore, your companions may disapprove of killing civilians.
