Hardly anyone will enjoy an encounter with a high-level opponent when their character isn't properly prepared for it. Therefore, in our Starfield guide, we explain how opponent scaling works in general and whether it appears in the game.
What is a level scaling?
It is nothing more than adjusting the level of opponents to the player's current level. This means that if your character is level 10, the enemies would have the same, or slightly lower, or higher level. It works even in the starting locations.
Is there a level scaling in Starfield?
The answer is no. In Starfield, opponents have a predetermined level. It means that exploring the open world and planets in the game will still be possible, naturally, but potential encounters might be much more challenging. Thus, we recommend completing missions or killing opponents of the same or slightly higher difficulty level to catch up quickly.
This doesn't mean that you certainly won't defeat creatures of a level far above your own. This is still possible, although you have to approach the battle more tactically. Fully upgraded weapon and armor components will be useful.
