The Water Temple | The Water Temple - Quests Risen 2 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
This quest can only be received after collecting all four Titan artifacts. It can be done during the course of the following very complicated quests: The Titan Weapon, The Gready Captain, Steelbeard's Artefact and The Cunning Captain. If you completed them all and have the Titan Harpoon, Earth Amulet, Sacrificial Knife and Thief's Bone Hand, report to Admiral Alvarez on Antigua. The old man will tell you to go to the Water Temple to defeat Mara once and for all. Before you can proceed to doing that, though, think carefully - you won't be able to go back and complete the rest of the quests. The choice is final and irreversible - as soon as you go to the temple, the game will reach its final stage.
The only person who knows the location of the Water Temple is the spirit of Captain Steelbeard. If you've already met him, go back to him or summon him by using the Skull Sceptre - this way you'll learn the bearings. If you haven't met the spirit before at all, sail to the Isle of the Dead (Alvarez will give you the coordinates) and complete the Steelbeard's Ghost quest.
After dealing with all the problems and learning the location of the Water Temple, set course on it. On the way you'll have to defeat the Kraken, which will attack you on the sea (see: Defeat the Kraken). In spite of appearances, the battle is quite easy - you can heal with grog and provisions all the time (breaks between subsequent attacks are pretty long).
The goal of the fight is to hit the beast in the mouth a couple of times - it opens it during certain types of attacks. After each successful throw take into consideration the fact that the monster will swim under your ship and will attack you from the other side (save the game frequently). You'll need to keed running on the deck so as to avoid being hit by tentacles - mobility is crucial here. When you successfully strike it four times, the Kraken will surface a bit more and open its mouth - this is when you need to aim perfectly at it. If you miss, you'll have to repeat the whole sequence.
When you kill the monster, there will be a movie in which a wounded Mara swims to the Water Temple. Follow her. Be ready for a difficult battle as soon as you land on the shores of the Water Temple. There are several Leviathans and Sunken Ones before you - they're very challenging opponents which you pretty much can't take on your own. Luckily, you won't have to - you have a whole crew of brave companions! Lure the beasts in the vicinity of the deck and observe how they're slaughtered by your friends (their Glory points go to your account). When this stage is over, enter the temple itself and deal with Mara (sadly, you need to do it without anyone's help).
The witch will attack you in melee combat - she's very quick, so be careful. Throwing sand or salt in her eyes works well here - it will let you strike a few blows. If you're not too fond of melee combat, shooting her with a rifle works well too - with the "hit and run" method. Nevertheless, you have to be aggressive - if you give Mara too much time to catch her breath, she'll go into air and summon several Sand Demons which will surely surround you. They shouldn't be a trouble for you - kill them and go back to fighting Mara.
When you finally kill her, watch the cutscene showing her failure. If you want to see the end credits, talk to Jaffar (see: Jaffar's Auri Culci) and the rest of crew members. After you tell Patty to leave the island, the game ends. Congratulations - you've just finished Risen 2!
