Become a Pirate | Tacarigua - Quests Risen 2 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Quest giver: Steelbeard [#1]
This quest is part of: The Titan Weapon
After finding Captain Steelbeard [#1] (see: Find Steelbeard), talk to him about the Titan Harpoon. He will give you valuable information about that powerful weapon, including the name of the man who currently possess it. It will quickly turn out that in order to follow the trail of the artifact, the Nameless Hero will have to join the pirate crew. Unfortunately, it won't be so easy.
Steelbeard will promise to go after the weapon, but will demand that you became a full-fledged pirate. There are two steps to be accepted in the ranks of the pirates - first you need to distinguish yourself, and then take an oath.
"Distinguishing yourself" is a lengthy process and requires a proper effort on your part. Steelbeard will observe your accomplishments and make a final assessment on their basis. If you haven't completed any mission from the list below, only one accomplishment will be taken into consideration at the beginning - finding the pirates' den. Patty's father will ask you which route you've taken to reach the camp, but what you tell him won't be of any matter.
In order to win Steelbeard over, you need to successfully complete at least five different missions from the list below:
- Got a good word from Blake - to get a good word from the pirate [#2] you have to kill more giant crabs than him. The news of your success will reach Steelbeard faster than you, so there's not need in telling him about it. You can find more information on the bloody battle with the overgrown crabs in the Crab Slapping with Blake quest description.
- Confronted Hank - in Booze's tavern, by the bar, you can find Hank [#3]. He won't have anything particularly interesting to say unless you start talking to the prostitute Holly, also in the tavern. The man will accost you after the conversation and demand a payment of 100 Gold. If you yield, the conflict will be nipped in the bud. If you refuse to give him a penny, you'll trigger the Settling the Score with Hank quest, which goal is to teach the thug a lesson. Steelbeard [#1] won't care about the result of the confrontation - the sole fact that there's been a confrontation is enough for him. The captain will find out about it on his own, so you don't have to tell him anything.
- Found O'Brian's treasure - O'Brian, a drunk in Booze's tavern, will tell you about valuables buried in the north beach. In order to obtain a map leading to the treasure, you'll have to beat him in a drinking contest first. You can offer him a monkey, an earring belonging to Largo, or 500 Gold. When you win, use the marker on the map and go to the beach behind the waterfall [#4]. You need a Shovel to dig the treasure out - if you haven't obtained it from Pete [#5] when looking for his treasure, you can always buy it from Flannigan [#6]. With another success on your account, go to Steelbeard [#1] to tell him about your finding.
- Found Pete's treasure - you can learn about the buried chest from Holly [#3], a prostitute from the tavern, if you agree to pay her 100 Gold. Pete had hidden his treasure in the central part of the island, in a gorge near a tomb [#5]. Once you're there, search the body of the poor fellow and you'll find a map that will allow you to locate the chest (see: Pete's Treasure Map). The valuables are buried a few meters further to the north, but you'll need a Shovel to dig them out - fortunately, you don't have to look for it because it's wedged in the ground right next to you. No one will tell the captain about your accomplishment, so you'll have to do it yourself.
- Plundered any grave - Tacarigua is rich in ancient buildings, and those, open to tourists, have plenty of valuable items to take. Steelbeard [#1] will appreciate your courage if you manage to take out at least one Idol from any tomb, and of course inform him about it. The quest isn't easy due to very dangerous opponents. You can find more information on how to get the treasures in the Old Grave Plundered quest description.
- Freed Largo from prison - the pirate is held in the tower in Puerto Sacarico [#7]. Freeing him requires some effort - first, you need to get a Lock pick from Stone [#8] (you can either buy it or get it for free, depending on whether you choose the more or the less complicated way), and bring him to the convict. He will take care of the rest. Your actions won't be received well by Carter and you'll be immediately attacked. Defeating him won't change anything in your relations, though. You can find more information on how to give Largo the longed-for freedom in the Freeing Largo quest description. There is an alternative way of obtaining the lock pick and you can read about in the A Difficult Chest quest description. Captain Steelbeard [#1] won't be informed of your success, so you'll have to tell him personally.
- Fought crabs - if Blake persuaded you to fight crabs and they've been defeated, you can tell the news to Steelbeard [#1]. The captain will appreciate your courage. It doesn't matter who killed the most crabs, you or your rival. In truth, you can completely ignore this fight because all that matters if the fact that the crabs are dead. You can find more information on this subject in the Crab Slapping with Blake quest description.
- Killed the traitor and the sea monster - in Booze's tavern [#3] you can find Meeks, a nasty pirate who is secretly collaborating with a Sunken One [#9]. If you agree to the innkeeper's request to follow the traitor, you'll witness one of their meetings. To get on the captain's [#1] good side, you have to kill them both. You can find more information on this subject in the Night-time Pursuit and The Traitor and the Beast quests descriptions.
- Taken care of the rum delivery - Captain Steelbeard [#1] has a problem because Booze [#3] won't deliver rum to him. To make a deal with the innkeeper, you need to reestablish water deliveries to the distillery (see: The Water Carriers) and find sugar stolen by termites (see: The Sugar Shipment). After completing both assignments, return to Booze and ask him to give rum to the cursed captain. When both gentlemen strike a bargain, you can tell Steelbeard that you've completed the mission.
When the quest is completed, all that's left to do is to take an oath in front of the crewmembers. In order to do that, tell Steelbeard [#1] you're ready to join their ranks. At this moment you can leave the island aboard the ship - simply talk to the captain.
Rewards:
- 200 Glory points for completing the quest.
