In the game Baldurs Gate 3, you can visit the Tax Collector's Building (Toll House) from the The Risen Road location. In our guide we explain how to get to the basement of the building with paladins led by Anders, as well as how to open the doors in the basement and how to get to the secret room by solving the puzzle. Location of the Tax Collector's Building (Toll House)
- In act 1 of BG3, you can visit the Risen Road region. In its eastern part you'll find the tax collector's house (Toll House).
- Inside the building is a group of paladins under the command of Anders. By default, they are not hostile towards the team. From the conversation with Anders, you could find out that they are hunting for the Tiefling in Karlas and this is part of the quest Hunt the Devil.
Where is the key to the basement?
- Before you go down to the basement, you should obtain the Tax Collector's Key.
- Head to the south of the building. The key is lying near the path close to the place where Karl hides. Use the option to highlight objects in the area - hold the ALT key. This will allow to easily locate a very small object.
Examination of the first part of the basement
- Return to the building and the room with Anders. In this place there is a hatch leading to the cellar. You can use it without fighting with the paladins.
- You come across a vault door, which requires the use of a key obtained earlier. You'll unlock access to a new part of the cellar.
- Here, you must be careful because of the traps - these are mainly round grates on the floor. Choose the character that is best at recognizing them (successful perception tests). You can avoid or disarm the traps.
How to open the secret room?

- You can notice the secret room by moving the camera - the picture shows it.
- The secret room in the cellar seemingly has no entrance doors. You have to cause the opening of the secret passage.
- There are 2 stone chairs in the basement. You have to separate 2 characters from the rest of the team - this is done by dragging their icons and detaching them from the chain. We described this in more detail on the page How to divide the team?.
- Each of the 2 characters must sit in a separate chair - we marked them in the picture. The correct action will lead to the lowering of the stone passage.
Rewards for solving the riddle
Leave 2 characters on the chairs, because after they get up, the passage will close again. Delegate again a character capable of detecting and disarming traps to investigate the secret room (among others. long board on the floor.
In the secret room there is a lot of weapons and various equipment (highlight them with the ALT key). The most valuable are:

- Gloves of Heroism - they offer a bonus to defense rolls based on strength.
