Baldurs Gate 3: Rescue the Trapped Man walkthrough

Rescue the Trapped Man is a quest in the first act of Baldur's Gate 3. It begins immediately when you find the Waukeen's Rest inn in the northern part of the map. This guide will show you how to rescue Florrick and Benryn from the fire and where to find the statue.

How to rescue Florrick?

You will arrive at Waukeen's Rest in the midst of a fire. The main doors to the inn are blocked. Talk to the Flaming Fist soldiers trying to open them and help them with a Strength check (DC 10). If you inquire about the trapped Grand Duke and have Wyll in your party, you can ask him to open the doors, which guarantees success.

After opening the doors, follow the Flaming Fist to the upper floor. Try to avoid stepping into the fire - along the way, you can also stop by the kitchen to gather plenty of camp supplies. The Flaming Fist soldiers will stop outside the room where Counsellor Florrick is trapped. Destroy the planks blocking the entrance and follow her to the exit. Outside, you will learn a bit about the Grand Duke and Wyll. You will receive a quest to rescue the Grand Duke, which you can only complete in the third act.

For saving Florrick, you will also receive a reward in the form of one of three weapons - a trident, a longbow, or a staff. These weapons grant you lightning charges while dealing damage with them or casting cantrips and spells. If you have a mage or sorcerer in your party, take the staff - it drastically increases the power of spells that hit multiple times, especially the Magic Missile. Otherwise, take the bow.

How to rescue Benryn?

Benryn is located in the wing of the building to the left of the main entrance. Enter and go to the upper floor, where another barricade blocks the way to Benryn. Destroy it from a distance - this particular barrier will explode upon destruction, so you want to keep your distance. Benryn is trapped under wooden beams, and to save him, you need to pass a Strength check (DC 10) or an Investigation check (DC 15). If you fail the check, you can try again as another party member.

Where to find the statue?

After saving Benryn, he will approach the body of his wife, Mirileth. To complete the quest, you need to find the couple's missing dowry. Cast a Speak with Dead spell on Mirileth to find out where the dowry is - she hid it in a haystack in the barn behind the tavern. Go there and search the haystack to find a box, and inside it, a ring. You can now return it to Benryn or keep it - Benryn will not give you a reward, but the ring is worth very little. Regardless of your choice, this will complete the quest.
