Recruiting companions and maximum party limit

1. You will start the BG3 campaign alone, creating your own character or choosing one of the ready-made personas. We do not recommend going through the entire game with one character because thanks to team it's easier to win bigger battles. Besides, you will have a variety of attacks, spells and skills at your disposal (e.g. a separate form for casting spells or stealing).
2. The remaining party members you must find and recruit in the game world. Their list is on the guide page All Companions. You can find there requirements for joining them.
3. After meeting the requirements (e.g. (release of an ally) you can invite the character to the active party - choose the appropriate dialogue options (example in the picture). In case of a lack of free space, you can alternatively send it back to the camp where he will wait for further interactions (more about this on the Party Camp page). Don't categorically reject other characters, because you will lose potentially valuable companions and associated conversations as well as quests.

1. In BG3, the active party (those traveling around the world of the game) can consist of up to 4 people. This is 1 main protagonist with 3 chosen companions.
2. When you choose companions for an active party, pay attention to having a diversified crew. Ideally, they should be characters from completely different classes, such as warrior, rogue, cleric and mage. Thanks to this, they can complement each other in battles and skill tests. Each of them will offer unique actions, attacks, or spells.

Positive or negative companions attitude

1. You should travel with people who share a similar worldview. This will allow you to gain their support for quest choices. The game informs about the approval or disapproval of a given companion (example in the picture) for instance during a conversation or completing a quest.
2. Positive relationships can lead to unlocking romances and companion quests. There may be conflicts between party members. Avoid having them on the same party. Confrontations can make relationships worse and even lead, for example, to the splitting apart an individual character.
3. Companions might wish to comment on recent events or talk about them - exclamation marks over their heads indicate this. This is a good opportunity to improve relations, but be careful when choosing the answer. In addition, they can interfere in conversations with other NPCs if, for example, they know the topic or the speaker.

How to unlock companion quests?

1. Every companion has their own quest. They appear in the diary after adding a character to the party. You can treat them as optional tasks, because they are not required to complete the main storyline. We described all companion quest in our solution.
2. The game may not let you go further in the companion quest right away. Look for opportunities to chat with a given companion in the party camp to get to know each other better and improve relations. Going further with the quest may also require taking a specific companion on the journey.

How to develop party members?

1. All party members advance to the next levels, not just the main character. You have full control over their development and you can choose new subclasses or spells for them, among other things. This will allow them to modify their starting builds.
2. Companions, those you left at camp, can also receive XP. This eliminates the need to juggle the party just to gain experience. You can receive information about the promotion of inactive people from the party after returning to the camp.

Companions inventory

1. In BG3, in parallel to developing companions, you can also manage the inventory and current equipment of your party members. Each recruited character has starting equipment, but you should regularly upgrade it - give better weapons and armor elements as well as single-use items (e.g. (potions).
2. Every character has a separate inventory, and this is very helpful in terms of collecting a large amount of equipment. Share the loot among your companions (especially heavier weapons and armor) to avoid overloading you heroes. We discussed this topic in more detail on the page Is there a weight limit?.

How to control a party during a battle?

1. During battles, you have full control over the entire active party - you must give them commands. When establishing commands, pay attention to the unique attacks or abilities of a given character, such as the ability to deal fire damage. Also watch out for their weaknesses, e.g. poor armor.
2. It is essential to set up the team before the battle. You can split up the party, for example, a rogue can sneak in from the back, and a long-range attacker can be placed on a high shelf.
3. Don't set your companions close to each other, as they could all get injured after an enemy's area attack or a trap detonation.
4. Try to avoid knocking down or killing someone from the party. Reviving or restoring such a character to a normal state can be very difficult, and can also result in wasting a given turn.

Selection of characters for skills tests

1. For many skill tests, you can choose a specific team member, and the main character doesn't have to take the test. Switch to a different character before conversation or interaction with an object.
2. Choose characters most closely related to a given test, or with proficiency from the test or the best developed characteristic (for example. (Strenght). Unfortunately, the results of each test are random and even when well prepared, it's worth saving the game in advance to easily repeat a failed attempt.
