During the exploration of the BG3 world, you may have an issue finding a shovel which is needed, among other things, to dig up treasure from a mound (Dirt Mound). In our guide, we show you where to acquire or purchase a shovel and how to properly interact with this item.
Getting a shovel
- A shovel is an item that you can obtain in many different places. Its acquisition is possible already in act 1.
- An unused shovel is located by the road in the northern part of Roadside Cliffs. It is stuck in one of the mounds.
- You can purchase a shovel from merchant Arron upon reaching the Druid Grove. It should be very cheap to buy.
- Gimblebock should also have a shovel in his inventory - he is one of the raiders from the chapel ruins located above the Overgrown Ruins.
How to use a shovel?
- The most important use for a shovel is to interact with dirt mounds. The example shows an image and first, you must complete a passive test (e.g. perception or survival) after approaching a hidden mound. Only then will it be revealed.
- Interacting with the mound will lead to digging up a chest with treasure. This is a chance to find a larger amount of gold and rarer items.
- After acquiring a shovel, you can also search for graves in order to dig them up and, for example, plunder them or talk to the dead.
