STALKER 2: Wishful Thinking
Wishful Thinking is the culminating mission of the segment at the SIRCAA institute. This page of the guide will tell you how to survive the Ward attack, what to do with Hermann and which side of the conflict to support.

During the mission Wishful Thinking, Skif will find the legendary Monolith. The hero will also have to choose who to support during the fight for the institute. On this guide page, we present to you all the most important aspects of the mission and the consequences of the choices.

How to return to Dalin?
The mission Wishful Thinking will start immediately after completing The Forge of Progress. Climb the steel stairs leading back to the institute.
Enter the building and follow the mission marker leading to the right. In the large room, head up the stairs.
Dalin and Korshunov will be waiting for you in the control room. After the conversation, the doctor will send you back to the large room where you will make your wish.
Monolith
Go down the stairs. Two specters are kneeling in front of the pedestal. Interact with each of them to see visions.
Finally, interact with the third specter that will appear before you.
You will be attacked by the Ward. There are a lot of soldiers, so we recommend you run to the stairs and defend yourself using a high ground advantage.
After some time, Skif will wake up. It turns out the whole fight was just a hallucination. Talk to Dalin.
What to do with Hermann?
After talking to the doctor, leave the room and head to the glass-walled office. In the side room (at the top of the stairs), you will meet with Agatha and the tied up Hermann.
The woman will let you decide the fate of the treacherous scientist. We described the consequences of killing or sparing Hermann in more detail on a separate page: Kill or spare Hermann?.
Agatha will ask you about the safety of the experiment. Regardless of your answer, the woman will know the truth about the Noontide's planned attack on the institute.
Go to the Cryptobiology Lab, the one you were in earlier. Go through the door to the left of the large room.
Who to support in the conflict?
In the large hall you will encounter Ward and Noontide soldiers led by Dubny. Talk to the Noontide commander.
After a short conversation, you can decide who you will support in the fight for the institute.
- By choosing the "I'm with you" option you will support the Noontide. The Ward will open fire on you.
- If you declare "I'm with the Ward", you will side with the Ward. You will have to kill all the Noontide soldiers in the hall.
Choosing one of the factions will affect the ending of the mission and what quests you will receive after completing Wishful Thinking. In this walkthrough, we have decided to support the Noontide.
Activating the Monolith
Run into the tunnel. Defeat a few Ward soldiers.
A moment later you will meet Strider. Watch a long cut-scene in the chamber where the experiment is being conducted. After that, the mission will end.
