How to activate the King of the Hill mission?
You will receive the King of the Hill quest during a story conversation with Varan during the Deal with the Devil quest. The boss agrees to give you information about Nestor, provided that you pay him 20,000 coupons or kill one of the leaders of the local gangs. If you agree to take on the dirty job, the King of the Hill quest will start automatically.
Kill Shah or Roosevelt?
- Killing one of the two leaders has no significant impact on the main plot of STALKER 2.
- Before killing the leaders, you can also complete minor, optional tasks.
- Veterans of the series can make decisions based on the affiliations of both leaders. Roosevelt maintains contacts with Duty, while Shah is in touch with Freedom.
- In our opinion, it is easier to assassinate Roosevelt. His base is located a short distance from the Slag Heap, and Borodulin's optional task is much simpler than the equivalent in Shah's storyline.
- Ultimately, you can decide to kill both bandits. In this way, you will gain significantly more loot.
Also remember that the King of the Hill mission is completely optional. To extract information from Varan, you can either kill him or bribe him. More information on the different ways of doing this story can be found on the page dedicated to the Deal with a Devil quest.
Borodulin's task (Roosevelt's thread)
Before attacking Roosevelt, you can meet with Borodulin - a former member of the Duty faction. You will find him north-west of Varan's hideout.
The first part of the task after a short conversation will be hunting down the local mutants. The only thing you have to do is survive several waves of attacking monsters. After the fight, talk to the Colonel.
In the second part of the quest Borodulin will hunt you. Hide somewhere nearby and wait a minute, avoiding the shots of the drunk ex-Duty. Once he radios you that the hunt is over, you can safely return to him.
The former soldier will reveal the location of the secret entrance to Roosevelt's base. Armed with new knowledge, you can head towards the bandits' hideout.
How to kill Roosevelt?
The headquarters of Roosevelt and his gang is located just north of Slag Heap.
The secret entrance to the building is through the pipes on the western side of the building. Go around the small utility building and jump onto the rusty structure. It will lead you to an open window upstairs. Enter inside carefully.
Sneak along the metal scaffolding, then jump off the damaged stairs. The entrance to Roosevelt's office is right next door.
- You can talk to the boss. He will offer you money in exchange for his life. If you accept the offer, you will be free to leave the base, and a moment later 2,500 coupons will appear in your account. Choosing this path, however, will result in this part of the King of the Hill task marked as not completed.
- You can also just kill Roosevelt. If you do this after the conversation, an alarm will go off in the base, so we recommend you silently kill the man using a weapon with a silencer.
After killing the leader, remember to take the PDA from Roosevelt's body. If you didn't raise the alarm, exit the leader's office through the same door, then go down into the sewers next to the destroyed stairs. They will safely lead you out of the base area.
You can now return to Varan with the acquired PDA.
Huron's task (Shah's thread)
Huron - a trader from Slag Heap can give you a quest related to Shah's faction.
After a short conversation, he will give you No Honor Among Thieves mission. First, it will lead you to a nearby house where the courier's body is located.
To get inside the locked hut, enter one of the red containers behind the building. Destroy the boxes blocking the path and climb to the top of the containers through the hole in the ceiling.
Sprint onto the nearby excavator, then walk along its arm to the hut. Inside you will find the bodies of the couriers. The information from the PDA of one of the deceased will direct you to Docent who resides south of Slag Heap.
There will be a shootout at Docent's base . Defeat the bandits, then quickly head to the entrance on the building's first floor. You can get there by jumping on the boxes and the roof of the truck.
Jump down to Docent's room. The leader will try to make a deal with you. In exchange for sparing his life, he will return the stolen shipment and reveal the location of several stashes. We recommend you to agree to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and gain valuable information. Take the goods in the blue suitcase.
Return to Huron. He will thank you for completing the task and give you a reward.
When we were performing this task, Huron did not share with us the information about Shah's hideout. Despite the mission marker correctly indicating that it was completed, the merchant did not mention anything about Shah. Perhaps a glitch. Because of that, we attacked Shah as described below - in a less subtle way, without doing any stealth.
How to kill Shah?
Shah and his gang's base is located west of Slag Heap. The building is guarded by a large group of bandits. Be prepared for a potentially long and difficult fight. Try to defeat as many enemies as possible while sneaking around.
Shah is dressed in green armor. After defeating him and taking his PDA, you can return to the Varana.
