While playing Rise of the Ronin, you can receive pop-ups about acquiring new titles (e.g. a police officer). This page of the guide explains the practical use of the titlesand how to assign or change a title associated with a controlled character.
How to change the title and what's its function?
- When you start a new game, your character does not have any title yet. It's worth changing this, because an active title can increase the hero's stats.
- Wait till the Equipment tab is unlocked. Press the right analog stick (R3) in this window and you will go to the Status menu as shown in the screenshot above. The Title field is in the top left corner of the screen.
- Pressing the right stick (R3) again will display the title list. Initially, it is almost entirely hidden and instead of title names, you will only see question marks.
- Only one known title can be set at a time and the stats affected by it will increase as long as the title is active. This specifically refers to increasing the hero's attributes - the title shown in the screenshot can increase the Intellect attribute by 1 point. It's worth choosing a title related to the most important stat from your build.
Unlocking new titles
- You can receive new titles as various rewards and they will then be added to the list of already known ones.
- Titles can be awarded, for example, for completing selected quests. You can find info on a title to be yet obtained in the journal, in the quest description (list of rewards).
- Other ways to earn titles can be developing bonds with companions or completing challenges - for example as shown in the screenshot, the title Cat Connoisseur became a reward for finding 50 cats in the game world.
- It is also worth browsing through the titles that appear as locked on the list. You may see information about the requirements to unlock specific titles.
