Rise of the Ronin is a game that should appeal to players who prefer open worlds. We explain how big is the map, whether there is freedom in exploring the open world, as well as what locations, unique collectibles, and activities can be discovered.
What is the size of the map?
- After completing the prologue of Rise of the Ronin, you hero can explore the open world. However, there is no one big world map in the game. There are 3 regions available - Yokohama, Edo and Kyoto. Each of them is a separate map.
- Maps of Yokohama and Edo (example in the image above) are huge. Each of them consists of several areas and their full exploration and removing the fog of war can take you quite a lot of time. Kyoto is a slightly smaller map and fully exploring it is not as time-consuming.
- The game unlocks the regions one by one - after completing the prologue you will go to Yokohama, at the end of chapter 1 to Edo, and later in act 2 to Kyoto. Returning to previous maps is possible, although somewhat difficult - the mechanics of revisiting old regions are described on the FAQ page How to return from Edo to Yokohama?.
We have prepared an interactive map, thanks to which you can check the regions from Rise of the Ronin and learn about the location of important locations, quests, activities or secrets.
World exploration
- Fast travel, traveling on horseback and using a glider can help you traverse the world - all of these topics are discussed on separate pages in the FAQ chapter.
- Main regions may contain, e.g. inhabited locations with friendly or hostile NPCs, various secrets and collectibles (e.g. searching for cats, shrines, treasure chests), mini-games (e.g. Firearm Training) or fugitives' hideouts. Exploring the open world can help you speed up character development, as well as allow you to find valuable equipment.
Main cities and regions
- Each of them has dense buildings and consists of various districts, where the hero can find, among others, quest givers, service providers or merchants.
- In addition to urban areas, you can also explore lands around the cities. These can include villages, campsites, forests, beaches, mountainous areas, or ruins of ancient buildings. Many of these locations hide, for example, unique NPCs or secrets.
- Additionally, while traversing the game world, you may trigger small random events. Dealing with them can lead to special rewards or an increase in bond level in a given region.
