One of the ways to get rich in Rise of the Ronin is to use pickpocketing. On this page of our guide, we show how to unlock Pickpocket from the skill tree, how to successfully steal, and what may happen if you're caught in the act.
Buying the skill
To unlock the pickpocketing mechanics, you need 2 skills from the Charm tree (marked in the image below):
- Speechcraft Liar - unlocked with Charm points;
- Pickpocket - unlocked by spending normal skill points.
To be able to steal, you only need to buy the initial level of both these skills. You don't have to develop them 100%, although their performance will improve if you do (e.g. theft of a larger amount of gold).
Who can be robbed?
- Only chosen NPCs can be pickpocketed and to locate possible targets, you need to do a little reconnaissance. Your targets for pickpocketing will mostly be traders and well-dressed inhabitants of the cities.
- To recognize a target, run intentionally into NPCs, and at the moment of colliding, a message may appear that stealing is possible (example in the screenshot). To steal, you need to quickly press R1.
- Only money can be stolen. You cannot rob NPCs of their weapons or equipment.
Additional note - You don't need lockpicks or a related skill to be able to steal items out of containers. Sometimes, you may need a certain key that is most of the time carried by one of the nearby characters (usually a stronger bandit or a miniboss).
Risks associated with pickpocketing
- Each theft slightly raises Wanted Level indicator - it appears in the upper right corner of the screen. Once it is completely filled, the law enforcement will start pursuing the protagonist - when that happens, it is best to escape from the danger zone and wait the chase out.
- Be careful, as a chase may ensue immediately, if, for example, you pickpocket someone near police officers. They will go straight to hunting the protagonist.
