Later in the third chapter of Rise of the Ronin, you must return to the Edo region and begin the mission Patriots' Reward. Our guide describes the boss fight with Sozo Sagar from this main quest - he is an elite opponent that you will encounter in one of the halls of Edo Castle.
Meeting place in Edo Castle
- Sozo Sagara is a boss encountered at the end of chapter 3. The heroes will then return from Kyoto to the Edo region. You will start the mission Patriots' Reward, which is about infiltrating the previously inaccessible Edo Castle.
- As part of the quest, you first have to go through the caves adjacent to the castle where you may encounter several mini-bosses. Inside Edo Castle, reach the banner shown in the picture - it allows you to save your progress and replenish supplies before the boss fight. You will meet Sagara after opening the nearby large doors.
Boss fight with Sagara
- In the arena, you can find weapons stuck in the ground. Your character can grab them with the grappling rope and throw them at the boss. Do this when Sagara is fighting with your companions, so there will be little risk that he will block the weapon flying towards him.
- The boss can attack you not only in close combat, but also from a distance. Sozo sends shock waves (example in the image). They are treated as regular attacks - you can parry them (this requires a great timing) or dodge to the sides.
- Sagara likes to use long series of attacks with his melee weapon, and a given sequence can be ended by a red attack - you should be ready to parry it perfectly or to jump away from the boss at the right moment. In the later part of the duel, the red attack finishing the series can be performed after a jump, not from the ground.
- Red charge attacks are also dangerous - they are signaled and its example is shown in the picture above. The charge itself is lightning fast and responding to it with perfect parrying is difficult. If Sozo misses, he can throw you into the air and inflict damage without letting you defend yourself.
- In the further part of the fight, Sozo may stab himself in the chest with a weapon. From this moment on, the boss can use a red attack that releases a wave of blood (picture above).
- We do not advise trying to block the wave, just quickly step aside. Sagara can also combine this attack with others, so be ready to parry or dodge right after the main wave is released.
