At some point during Act 3 of Rise of the Ronin, you'll have to face Ernest Satow, a major enemy figure up to now seen only in the cutscenes. On this page of our guide, we show how to win this battle taking place in Nijo castle in Kyoto, a location visited during The Last Shogun story quest.
Reaching the battle location
- The Last Shogun mission of Act 3 of the campaign will take you to Nijo castle.
- Your task is to reach the western part of the fortress - to enter this area of the castle, you need to cross a bridge over a moat and this is where the Banner signaling an imminent battle is found. Save your progress, as after crossing the bridge and using the grappling rope to cross over the wall, you'll enter the boss arena.
How to win against Ernest?
- The boss is accompanied by several regular enemies and we recommend taking care of them at the very beginning of the fight.
- Aides are easily dealt with, but they can use ranged weapons and throw poison bombs. With the ordinary enemies removed, you can focus on weakening Satow.
- The boss's weapon allows him to employ melee as well as ranged attacks. Be ready to parry/dodge at any moment, even if the boss seems unable to reach you.
- Satow may leave a trail of fire following his movements. Avoid contact with fire to prevent damage and negative status.
- Satow's weapon also allows him to get airborne and even, in a limited scope, fly above the arena. When he is in the air, watch out, as, at any moment, the boss can fire a red attack in which he lands on you and hits the ground very hard. Countering is risky and in this case it is better rely on dodges.
- Similarly to many other boss battles, don't give Ernest a moment of respite, as he can use the opportunity to heal himself, which will prolong the battle. Attack the boss in unison with your companions, as the best results are produced when he is attacked by 3 characters at the same time.
