Shortly after the start of Act 3 in Rise of the Ronin, the main hero will have to face boss Soji Okita. On this page of our guide, we provide a breakdown of this battle from Fate of the Vanquished story quest where the goal is to explore a ruined Honnoji temple. You will learn of the boss repertoire and receive tips on how to defeat the opponent.
Location of the battle
- You face Soji Okita shortly after the beginning of Act 3 in Kyoto region. One of the initial story quests of Act 3 is Fate of the Vanquished.
- During it, you'll explore a ruined Honnoji temple. You'll know that the battle is nearing after reaching the banner from the screenshot - this is a good opportunity to replenish supplies and save your progress. Okita will enter the scene after you use your grappling rope to ascend to the next area of the temple.
Boss tactics
- Okita's basic combination is a series of melee swings. The individual attacks are not that fast which makes them easy to parry.
- The boss can surprise you with a lunge followed by a single attack - it is a normal attack, which makes it easy to parry and even if you're struck, the damage received is not that high.
- Most common of red attacks of the boss is a single powerful frontal swing. Countering might be hard here, but the attack is easy to dodge.
- Another red attack is a strong stab performed at a distance. This attack is also of frontal sort and this may make it easier to mitigate.
- In the second phase of the encounter, Okita may block and parry your attacks more often. Do not perform lengthy combinations if you see that they don't bring the expected results. Instead, wait for the boss to attack, parry or dodge the attack, and return with a fast strike of your own.
- Remember to keep Okita occupied, as if he is free, he may heal himself, which will unnecessarily prolong the whole battle. Make use of your companions- they may hassle and divert the attention of the boss.
