How to complete a mission without killing other characters? On this page of the Rise of the Ronin guide, we described the premise of the Life Saver achievement and that of no-kill missions. We show how to use fist fight or non-lethal weapons and whether every quest can be completed peacefully.
Fist fighting or non-lethal weapons
- Before you start a no-kill mission, you need to prepare your character. The idea is that attacks should only stun enemies, not kill them.
- There are 2 ways to do this. The first method is fist fighting. Go to the Equipment tab, highlight one of 2 main weapons and remove the weapon from the active slot - press Square to do this. An icon of a fist should appear (image below).
- The second method is more efficient and involves using a wooden training weapon. This will allow you to inflict more damage than with fist attacks while keeping everyone alive.
- The training weapon could be acquired at the very beginning of the campaign. If you got rid of it, visit any base of any faction - Pro-shogunate (purple icon) or Anti-shogunate (green icon).
- Find a trader in the faction base. You will find wooden/training models of weapons - they all have a non-lethal mark next to the category name. Purchase any of them (in our case, it's a wooden katana).
- The last step is to place the wooden weapon in the active slot in the Equipment menu. Make sure you have selected it as the active one.
Best quests to earn the Life Saver trophy
- Many missions in the game require you to kill at least 1 enemy. For example, Peace Negotiations in Yokohama (Chapter 1) works well in terms of this achievement.
- As part of this quest, you have to meet Matthew Perry at the headquarters of the Pro-shogunate - it's the Yokohama Grand Villa. Perry will ask the hero to resolve the conflict in a peaceful way.
In case you miss this mission or complete it in an aggressive way, you can replay the quest by using the Testament of the Soul. This interaction is described in more detail on the page How to return to Yokohama from Edo?. Find this quest on the timeline and replay it.
- At the beginning, all dialogue options lead to combat, but using persuasion may cause some characters to withdraw from the battle. It will be easier for you to win it.
- During fights, use only your fists or wooden weapons. Do not use any sharp weapons, nor firearms or throwing items. Every defeated opponent must be stunned.
- The Life Saver trophy should automatically unlock after defeating the last participant in the fight.
