Strange Bedfellows is one of the main missions in Rise of the Ronin. During it, you encounter a group of bandits on your way to Kyoto from Edo. On this page of our guide, we describe a battle against 2 bosses that will attempt to stop you in the final moments of the mission - Tsurunosuke Tachiki and Kamezo Iwata. We discuss the most effective tactics to employ during the fight and show how to avoid red attacks of the bosses.
Bandits encountered on the way from Edo to Kioto
- In the final part of Act 2 of the story campaign, the heroes set out on a journey from Edo to Kioto region. During the passage, you'll enter a separate small location - Ejiri Post. You'll meet bandits here demanding a ransom for letting you through. Dealing with them will be the objective of a new story mission - Strange Bedfellows.
- The task involves crossing through the entirety of the bandit outpost. Ultimately, you'll reach the area from the screenshot - you can find a Banner here to save your progress and replenish supplies, as well as a grappling point for the rope. Using the grappling spot will take you to the final part of the outpost.
- Here you'll meet the leader of the bandits, Kamezo Iwata and his personal guards. The ensuing fight will be later on joined by a second boss - Tsurunosuke Tachiki.
How to defeat the boss duo?
- Around the battlefield, there are interactive weapons and containers - you can grab them with the grappling rope and hurl them in the direction of bosses or other remaining opponents. A direct hit at any of the minor bandits may eliminate or stun them effectively.
- We suggest dealing with ordinary bandits first, so they won't interfere when you're facing the bosses. Fortunately, they are easy to kill.
- One of Iwata's red attacks is a charge followed by a grab attempt. The safest way to avoid the attack is to dodge backwards. Perfect parrying the charge is very difficult and requires masterful timing.
- Kamezo can also perform two powerful strikes one by one and each is a separate red attack requiring parrying or dodging to mitigate it.
- In the later part of the battle, the second boss, Tsurunosuke Tachiki, will start attacking you from a distance.
- You can temporarily stop the barrage by using your ranged weapons (Rifle will work best) and attempting to get a shot at the boss's head. Unfortunately, Tachiki's health bar is quite long, and getting it depleted with ranged weapons will be tedious. Another way to stop the gunfire is using your grappling rope - either bring yourself closer to the boss with it or throw him off the scaffolding.
- Regardless of the methods chosen, focus on one boss at a time - we recommend taking care of Iwata first, as at this stage of the battle, his health should have already taken a hit.
- Each of the bosses can activate a Ki Blaze, and this makes them all the more dangerous. Try to perfect parry a lot then, in order to deprive the given boss of increased attack power. If you can activate your own Ki Blaze, use this option and spend it as well as you can.
- Tsurunosuke also has a grappling rope and can quickly bring himself to you if you won't prevent this (normal) attack. On the other hand, his red attacks are not that problematic, the only exception is the lunge, in case of which it is safer to dodge to a side or backward.
- Defeating the boss duo will complete the quest and the party will reach their destination - the third region of the game, Kioto.
