Rise of the Ronin: New Game Plus and endgame content Rise of the Ronin guide, tips
Does Rise of the Ronin have a New Game Plus mode? Our guide explains whether it's possible to start a new campaign with an evolved character, as well as the unique attractions of the endgame content available after completing the storyline.

Rise of the Ronin is a long and demanding game, but more committed and interested players may look for information whether they can complete the game for the second time in the NG+ mode. On this page of our guide, aside from an answer to this question, we explain the mechanics of repeating missions with the Testament of the Soul option. Additionally, we discuss the endgame phase coming into play after the conclusion of the main story - you'll learn about Midnight - a new difficulty level, Masterwork items, and Breakthrough skill tree.
Is there an NG+ mode and the option to repeat missions?
- Rise of the Ronin does not offer a New Game Plus mode in its standard meaning, which means the ability to repeat the story campaign with an already-developed character taken over from the previous playthrough. NG+ is partially replaced by unique features provided by the endgame phase, which we describe below.
- Thanks to Testament of the Soul mechanic, you can freely repeat already completed missions to, for example, face a given boss once again or choose a different option during a major decision. This way, you can, e.g. let an important story hero go free instead of executing him or play the mission in a way that appeases a different faction.
Additional endgame content
- You will enter the endgame mode automatically after completing the main story, i.e. after defeating the final boss at the end of Act 3.
- You'll receive a message about new content being unlocked then. You can continue playing with the same character you've used for the campaign, leveling him up further and completing left-over quests, activities, and collectibles.
The most important new endgame features are:
- New, highest, difficulty level: Midnight - you can choose it in Testament of the Soul menu. It is available both for free exploration and for already completed missions.
- Playing on Midnight difficulty level, aside from the challenge, gives the option to find Masterwork items - this is the highest rarity level of equipment and the first item of this type is received for completing the story campaign (screenshot above).
- New Ally Missions - these tasks are more challenging, but are rewarded with rare items.
- New skill tree - Breakthrough - this is a completely new tab in the skills menu. New skills allow learning Mumyo Kaishin-ryu combat style, as well as offer passive bonuses for the main hero and his allies (e.g. longer health bar, increasing the power of chosen types of attacks).
