Requirements for unlocking the second duel with Kusaka
- Genzui Kusaka can confront you again as a boss only if in the final part of Act 2 in Kyoto you chose the faction supporting the shogunate (purple dialogue option).
- This will start The Forbidden Gate Rebellion mission. You have to pass the initial part of the crossing through the burning city, defeating several mini-bosses beforehand. Look out for banners where you can rest and restore supplies. Kusaka appears after you reach the large gate shown in the picture.
Description of the boss fight in the Kyoto region
- One of Kusaka's basic attacks is a series of 5 slashes, which begins with an attack that shortens the distance between the boss and you. It may easily surprise you, so be ready to quickly block or parry.
- In the later part of the duel, the boss can dynamically change his fighting style - adjust your current style to maintain the high effectiveness of your attacks.
- Kusaka can also set his weapons on fire. The result of this is not only new moves, but also the risk of receiving fire damage, which can gradually deplete your health points.
- The boss gets one of his dangerous red attacks in the second phase of the fight. Kusaka can perform a fiery charge and even if you dodge it, avoid the burning trail left behind (example in the picture).
- Another problematic red attack could be performing several spins with flaming weapons. It's best to then step back, because stopping this attack by parrying it can be very problematic.
- Do not leave the boss alone, because he can then heal to regain some health points. Also revive fallen comrades, so Kusaka can be attacked by your entire team.
Right after this fight, you will face the Blade Twin in Kyoto - we have described it on the next page of the guide.
