Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? Dying Light 2 Guide, Walkthrough

This Dying Light 2 game guide page answers the question: can you repair weapons and how to make them last longer.

Last update: 04 February 2022

On this page of the Dying Light 2 guide, you can find out if you can repair damaged weapons. We also answer the question of whether it is possible to make the weapon's durability go down slower so they can last longer.

Weapon wear - what causes it?

In Dying Light 2, all melee weapons have a stat called Durability - Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? - Combat - Dying Light 2 Guide

In Dying Light 2, all melee weapons have a stat called Durability. It informs you about a given weapon's condition. Each attack with a given weapon that hits the opponent or an object will gradually deplete the durability bar. The higher the quality of the weapon, the higher its durability, and in theory, the longer you should be able to use it.

It is worth noting that this does not apply to ranged weapons, e.g. bows. Instead of the durability stat, you will need to have ammo for them.

Weapon repair - is it possible?

In Dying Light 2 ,you cannot repair weapons in the traditional way, i.e. by using crafting materials or visiting craftmasters.

The game has a mechanic that allows you to repair selected weapons from among those carried in the inventory. You can only repair weapons that have modifications slots (example in the picture). These are mostly high-quality weapons, e.g. rare, unique or artifact.

Weapons can be repaired by installing modifications in them - Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? - Combat - Dying Light 2 Guide

Weapons can be repaired by installing modifications in them. As a reminder, you can get modifications as loot or buy them from craftmasters. In the case of the latter, it is also possible to improve the modifications you have to make them stronger. To repair a weapon, choose any modification and place it in a damaged weapon.

After highlighting the weapon in the inventory, you have to press the button to open the modification window, and then place the modification in one of the free slots - Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? - Combat - Dying Light 2 Guide

After highlighting the weapon in the inventory, you have to press the button to open the modification window, and then place the modification in one of the free slots.

Each modification restores 50 durability points. Here are some important information:

  1. You shouldn't use modifications if the weapon has lost less than 50 points. Otherwise, you will "waste" potential repair points.
  2. Modifications cannot be removed from slots, so you can repair a weapon a limited number of times - 1 time if the weapon has 1 modification slot, 2 times if it has 2 slots and 3 times if it has 3 slots.
A weapon with 0 durability is irretrievably destroyed - Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? - Combat - Dying Light 2 Guide

A weapon with 0 durability is irretrievably destroyed. You can't restore it back to half or full durability bar.

If you get an exceptionally good or useful weapon, you shouldn't use it to attack weak opponents - you would be wasting it. Try to have a lot of lower-quality weapons in your inventory for less demanding enemies. You can also put exceptionally good weapons in stashes in all safe locations for later.

Reinforcement - slowing down the wear of weapons

The only way to partially deal with weapon wear is by using the Reinforcement modification - Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? - Combat - Dying Light 2 Guide

The only way to partially deal with weapon wear is by using the Reinforcement modification. You can buy it from one of the craftmasters in the game world. Reinforcement is a weapon modification - install it in one of the melee weapon slots to reduce the percentage of weapon wear after each attack.

The Reinforcement modification should be further improved by spending infected trophies and the Old World currency - Dying Light 2: Repairing weapons - is it possible? - Combat - Dying Light 2 Guide

The Reinforcement modification should be further improved by spending infected trophies and the Old World currency. This can increase its effectiveness, i.e. the weapon will lose durability even slower.

The highest level of Reinforcement (level 9) will make the weapon lose its durability extremely slowly. Unfortunately, you cannot achieve complete "indestructibility" of melee weapons.
