This page of the guide to Dying Light 2 explains whether firearms are available in the game. You will learn whether you can find firearms in the game world and, if necessary, what requirements you need to meet in order to obtain them.
Basic information
In Dying Light 2, you can regularly use long-range weapons to effectively weaken and kill enemies without risking close combat; these weapons include primarily the crossbow and various types of bows. Firearms are a very rare find and you cannot count on being able to use them regularly in the game from the very beginning. Below, we have described the ways to obtain the two different shotguns.
Shotgun from the Renegades side quest
The first way to get the gun is to do the Renegades side quest, which you can start in the Garrison district in the city center. It becomes available after completing The Orders main quest. The quest may disappear from the map if you make further progress in the main storyline. We recommend that you do this side quest immediately after unlocking it - its walkthrough can be found on a separate page of our guide: Renegades.
One of the rewards for completing the Renegades side mission is the Boomstick shotgun which you will find in accessories. It deals 100 points of damage and has only 2 rounds. Thus, we recommend saving it for special occasions.
After completing the task, you will also receive a blueprint for a shotgun which deals only 80 points of damage in its basic version. The Craftmaster can provide several upgrades for this weapon.
You need 100 scraps to craft a shotgun. Aside from searching every dumpster, backpack and defeated monster, you can also find scraps at every merchant. To quickly gather enough scraps, you can sleep and buy them from the same merchant again, or visit other sellers in your area.
It is also worth adding that the Boomstick Shotgun works only at a very close range, and its noise can quickly alert enemies in the vicinity. A bow with improved arrows that deal additional damage, e.g. from fire, is much better for quick takedowns.
The Doom easter egg shotgun
The second way to obtain a shotgun is more complicated, because it involves finding the easter egg related to the Doom games. You can go looking for the shotgun only after you've finished the main story, because the weapon's location is not available beforehand.
You must go to the VNC skyscraper in the Garrison district.
Find the entrance at the base of the skyscraper - it will be a fenced area, but jumping over the fence is easy. Reach the elevators behind the lobby and keep pushing the button to summon the elevator until it appears.
It is very important to press the button to go down to the basement - it is the single bottom one.
You'll return to the flooded basement, which you should remember from the Broadcast main quest. You have to dive again, but now you will be swimming in the opposite direction. While underwater, open the yellow gate and swim to the opposite end of the flooded area.
Once you go out of the water, you should be able to see the partially open door in front of you (picture above). Use it and reach the second elevator in the basement.
Go to level 0.
You will find yourself in a room with a rope pentagram and a Ka Doom Shotgun . After collecting it, the game will ask whether you want to play the unique Hangar challenge associated with the shotgun, but winning it is not required to keep the shotgun permanently.
Note - try to use the elevator to return upstairs. If you exit the game immediately or use fast travel, the location with the pentagram may break and become blocked. This means that you will not be able to return to it to do the challenge.
The Ka Doom Shotgun is placed in one of the accessory slots. It doesn't go into any of the 4 main weapon slots.
It is a weapon with a very high firepower - a single shots can kill or seriously weaken almost all enemies. It has 1993 rounds in stock, but remember that you can't find new ammo to this weapon, so don't use it against weak enemies whom other weapons will handle just as well.
