Last update: 03 February 2022
On this page of the Dying Light 2 guide, you will find a complete set of information on crafting. Below we have included numerous tips and tricks on, e.g. how to get crafting blueprints and materials, when you can start crafting, and what types of items can be crafted.
Blueprints
One of the character menu tabs is for crafting. You need blueprints to craft items. Each blueprint is for one type of item. Besides the item's stats, you can also read information about the required crafting materials.
You can create 1 piece or more, provided you have enough supplies (remember that the same material can be used for crafting various items!).
Aiden doesn't have any blueprints at the beginning of the game. You can get new blueprints in two ways:
- Received by completing quests - You will receive the most important blueprints in the initial main quests. Information that you can unlock a blueprint can be found in the journal - the rewards list in the quest's description.
- Bought from craftmasters - You can find them in large friendly locations (the first being the Bazaar). A single blueprint can cost from several hundred to several thousand gold.
Crafting parts
Crafting requires crafting parts.
You can hover the cursor over the icons of individual parts to find out how you can find them. The main ways are:
- Loot found in certain types of locations (e.g. residential buildings, military facilities) - Remember to scan the area frequently with the Survival Sense. Also, check all containers, especially those that are closed and require the use of lockpicks or a GRE key.
- Searching the bodies of defeated opponents - you will mainly get infected trophies.
If you have problems locating a material, you can also buy it from a trader or craftmaster. However, the cost of even a single material can be high, especially if it is one of the rarer materials. We recommend that you use this method only if you absolutely need to craft a specific item right now.
Upgrading blueprints
You can upgrade your blueprints. This way, you will be able to craft better-quality items - this can increase their statistics or grant them new features.
Blueprints can be improved at the craftmasters - go to the second tab and select one of the blueprints. Of course, this is not free - you have to pay with the Old World currency and infected trophies. The method of obtaining the latter has been discussed in more detail on the Infected trophies - what to do with them? page.
Additional note - There aren't many infected trophies, so you should plan wisely when buying blueprint upgrades. Choose the ones that you use the most first.
Consumables
Crafting is used to craft two main types of items. The first are consumables. These can be, for example, medicaments, lockpicks, various types of boosters, throwing knives, Molotovs, or various types of ammunition for ranged weapons. Use a blueprint to produce 1 or more units of the item.
Consumables can be used right away, or you may have to place them in one of the active slots first, e.g. throwable items.
Weapon modifications
The second main category is weapon mods. In the case of melee weapons, you get a separate slot for a Tip Socket, Shaft Socket, and Charm Socket (only for cosmetics). It is a good idea to upgrade your unique weapons so that they can, for example, be able to deal additional types of damage (fire, electric shock, poison, etc.).
You can modify the weapons yourself - after highlighting the weapon in the inventory, press the right button to open the modification window (Triangle/Y on controller).
Note - Each weapon modification is a consumable item. Once placed in a weapon, you cannot remove it - it will be destroyed with the weapon in which it was installed. We recommend installing mods only in your best weapons with a lot of durability points (so they can last longer).
