Last update: 04 February 2022

On this page of the Dying Light 2 guide, you will find information where to get and how to use lockpicks. We explain where to find or how to craft lockpicks (upgraded versions of them also) and how to complete the lockpicking mini-game.

Using lockpicks in the game

Lockpicks are used to open locks that can protect doors or various types of containers - Dying Light 2: Lockpicks - how to get and use? - Exploration - Dying Light 2 Guide

Lockpicks are used to open locks that can protect doors or various types of containers.

Locks have 3 levels of difficulty - easy, medium or hard. You can attempt to break even the most difficult locks right from the start of the game, but basic lockpicks won't do much against them.

Obtaining and upgrading lockpicks

A good source of lockpicks comes from crafting - Dying Light 2: Lockpicks - how to get and use? - Exploration - Dying Light 2 Guide

A good source of lockpicks comes from crafting. To craft lockpicks, you'll need a blueprint. You'll get one from Hakon after completing Plague Indicators story quest.

Another requirement are scraps - fortunately, this is a common crafting resource. You can find it in abundance by exploring and searching every encountered container, chest, cupboard, or box.

Sometimes, ready-made lockpicks are awarded in progress of quests - Dying Light 2: Lockpicks - how to get and use? - Exploration - Dying Light 2 Guide

Sometimes, ready-made lockpicks are awarded in progress of quests. Unfortunately, you won't get much of them, and it may turn out that after a few failures you'll use up all received lockpicks.

We recommend that you always have at least 10 lockpicks at the ready. The current number of lockpicks is displayed in the upper left corner of the menu.

Later in the game, you can and should consider upgrading your lockpicks - Dying Light 2: Lockpicks - how to get and use? - Exploration - Dying Light 2 Guide

Later in the game, you can and should consider upgrading your lockpicks. To do this, you need to visit a craftsman and go to the second upgrade tab. In order to buy the upgrade, you need to spend infected trophies (search the bodies of killed monsters - especially those more powerful ones) and Old World money.

The upgrades influence following statistics:

  1. Increase lockpick durability, increasing the chances of completing the minigame without breaking the lockpick.
  2. disarm lower level locks by force ,
  3. Craft more lockpicks with the same amount of crafting material spent.

Lockpicking mini-game

The lockpicking minigame is very similar to lockpicking mini-games appearing in other games of this genre - Dying Light 2: Lockpicks - how to get and use? - Exploration - Dying Light 2 Guide

The lockpicking minigame is very similar to lockpicking mini-games appearing in other games of this genre:

  1. The idea of the mini-game is to find the correct position for your top lockpick . You can move it left and right (left analog stick when playing on a gamepad).
  2. After placing the upper pick in a certain position, you need to test the position by moving the lower pick (right analog stick while playing on a gamepad). The farther the top pick is from the correct position, the sooner you will encounter resistance when turning the lock. Do not put too much pressure on the lower pick after it is blocked, as you may break the currently used lockpick. Immediately after you notice resistance, stop the attempt and change the position of the upper lockpick to try again in a different position.
