Basic information about fast travel
Dying Light 2 offers a fast travel mechanic for traveling around the game world, but it is not available from the start of the campaign. You need to advance enough in the game to have at least 2 different fast travel points unlocked on the world map. Fast travel is free, and you can use it without spending any gold or resources.
The main points of fast travel are metro stations but they can also be unique locations, such as PK Floating Fortress. Information on how to take over a metro station can be found in the next subpoint.
One of the primary uses of fast travel is to travel between the two main parts of Villedor - the old town and the center (you need to unlock them first as you progress in the main story). Both parts of the city are not connected in another way that you could use instead of fast travel. The route from the old town to the center in one of the main quests is a one-way journey and cannot use the other way around.
Metro stations - how to take over?
Discovering a metro station while exploring the world map is not enough. You have to take it over. Metro stations are so-called night locations . It means that you will encounter fewer zombies when you enter this location at night.
Note - The exploration of a metro station may take a long time, so before trying to unlock it, try to develop your immunity and take some specifics with you (e.g. mushrooms, boosters) to restore it. Otherwise, you may not be able to take over the station before losing all immunity and dying.
The exploration of the metro station consists of two parts. In the first part, you have to explore the dark platform. In addition to avoiding or eliminating zombies in this location, you also need to find the main switch.
The main switch may be inactive due to a power cut. You have to reach the basement by jumping down to the inactive elevator shaft.
While exploring the basement, you have to reach and turn on the backup generators. The locations of the generators are marked on the map but unfortunately, getting to them is not easy. It can involve parkour and avoiding chemicals (touching it depletes the Immunity bar).
After activating all of the backup generators, you can return to the elevator and activate it. After reaching the top, use the main switch again. From now on, the station will be taken over - it will become a fast travel point and a safe area with a bed and a stash.
Using fast travel and possible restrictions
Fast travel is activated on the world map . Zooming out as far as possible helps you find potential fast travel points among other icons. To use fast travel, you don't have to reach the metro stations, although you will find there interactive maps that work similarly.
Note - There is a bug in the game that makes the previously discovered metro stations disappear and makes it harder to use fast travel. We have described this problem in more detail on the Fast travel bug page.
The game may temporarily block fast travel . This can happen if:
- you are currently completing a quest that does not allow you to interrupt it and leave the quest location,
- you are currently being attacked by opponents - you have to kill them first or escape.
