Last update: 09 February 2022
On this page of the Dying Light 2 guide you'll learn more about the Grappling Hook, which is one of the most useful gadgets in the game. We will show you how to use the grappling hook correctly and what are the profits from upgrading the hook.
Unlocking the Grappling Hook
Obtaining the grappling hook is a story event - you cannot find it on your own in the game world. Simply reach the right moment during the story campaign.
The hook is found while in the progress of Broadcast story quest i.e. when climbing the VNC Tower. The hook will be stuck in the wall in one of the explored elevator shafts - obtaining it is a story event, as going further without it is not possible.
Grappling Hook - using and upgrading
The most important information is that the hook must be set as in an active slot in order to be able to use it while climbing. You have to go to the inventory, enter the accessories menu, select the hook and place it in one of the 4 active slots (picture 1 and 2).
. .
You can fire the active hook at any object that has a small crosshair icon next to it . The main use of the described gadget is the ability to swing on a rope in order to e.g. jump to the neighboring shelf. In some locations, you may be forced to perform several such actions in a row, i.e. swing, jump and grab another element of the environment in flight.
You can use it alternatively by climbing the rope instead of rocking it. Climbing can be helpful if you want to use the hook to approach some higher ledge or the roof of the building, but you have to remember about the stamina bar that gets depleted quickly.
Further uses of the grappling hook are described in more detail on a dedicated page (Rope climbing - is it possible?).
The hook is initially at level 1, but you can upgrade this gadget up to level 3 . The entire procedure is described in more detail on a dedicated page Tools - how to improve? . As a reminder, you need to collect Military Tech (unique loot) and visit craftsmen to buy upgrades.
- Level 2 makes climbing faster. Moreover, you receive an ability to attach to new surfaces. This is a crucial upgrade if you use the hook regularly for climbing purposes.
- Level 3 allows you to pull enemies. This may prove to be useful in combat.
