Zhu Bajie is a familiar face as he has already helped you earlier on. Zhu will lose his mind in chapter 4 and will start attacking you. On this page of the Black Myth Wukong guide, you will learn how to fight your previous companion, which attacks to watch out for, and what the rewards are for defeating this boss. The fight itself is unusual, as its two phases take place in two different arenas.
Zhu Bajie in a nutshell
- In the first phase, the boss specializes in mid-range area attacks. He will very often swing his weapon around.
- Initially, Zhu Bajie is very vulnerable to stuns. Charged blows, requiring three focus points, repelling relics and boss souls, like the Wandering Wight, can easily knock him down and give you plenty of time to attack.
- In the second arena you will fight in the mud. This means that your movements will be significantly limited. The dodges will be slower and you won't be able to use them as quickly as earlier. Therefore, treat dodges as a last resort, when it's the only way to avoid the enemy's blow.
- In the second phase, Zhu Bajie will use mud to transform into various animal forms. It'll be best to focus on defense then. You will rarely have the opportunity to deal damage to him and at some point he will summon three large, muddy boars that will charge at you several times.
Zhu Bajie's attacks
- A series of three attacks- Zhu Bajie will start a sequence of three sweeping punches of a medium range. Perform a dodge backwards, then perform a counterattack.
- Double swing - the boss will swing his rake twice. The second attack is a bit slower and delayed, so wait for it to dodge to the side and only then attack.
- Tornado - the enemy will start spinning around. After a few turns, he will turn into a small tornado, which will start dealing damage and pulling you towards it. Perform a dodge straight towards the enemy, otherwise the attack will reach you.
- Jump and strike - Zhu Bajie will jump into the air and land, attacking with his rake. After a while, he will perform another attack once he is on the ground.
- Drop-kick - the enemy can jump and strike with both legs at once. This attack is easy to avoid and the boss will lie on the ground for a while afterwards.
- Transforming into a fish - the boss can transform into a giant, mud creature resembling a fish during a combo attack. He will strike the ground with his body, so it's recommended to move away from him.
- Series of rake attacks - once a red glow appears on the boss's weapon, he will start a series of blows. The first and second attacks are slow, the next three are very fast. After these, the opponent will charge forward to finish off the sequence with a slow blow from above. Once he's above the ground, dodge to the side and start attacking.
- Transformation into a boar - the second phase - after his health bar is reduced by half, the boss will transform into a boar. Then, he will gain new attacks, including a charge, creation of clones and an underground attack.
- Underground attack - second phase - when you notice black waves under the ground flying towards you, you will have to dodge them at the perfect moment. Don't dodge too quickly, otherwise they will hit you.
- Hooves attack - second phase - If you approach Zhu Bajie from behind, he may attack you with his hooves. He will raise both of his hind legs and after a moment will hit you with them. Perform a dodge to the side, as this attack has a considerable range.
- A series of attacks as a fish - second phase - Zhu Bajie turns into a fish, then performs a series of attacks while sinking into the mud. You have to look carefully at the ground. If you notice movement, the boss will probably emerge in a moment.
- Rhino charges - second phase - the boss can also turn into 3 rhinos and start charging towards you three times, ramming anything that gets in their way. Here you need to observe from which directions the rhinos are running in order to effectively dodge them all with one move.
How to fight Zhu Bajie?
The first fight with Zhu Bajie is quite simple. All you need to do is use charged attacks, immobilizes and other repelling items to knock him down and stop him from attacking.
However, if he attacks you, simply retreat and try to avoid his attacks. Thanks to this, you will slow down time and will be able to quickly charge another powerful blow.
The second mud fight will be more problematic. Your movements will be severely restricted. The first phase of the second fight doesn't differ too much from the previous one, except that the boss can turn into a fish and hit you with his body. Then, you need to quickly move away from him or dodge at the perfect moment.
You cannot spam the dodge button in this arena. Unfortunately, the mud in the arena will make you slower and therefore more likely to get hit if you don't dodge at the perfect time.
The second phase is the most problematic, because you will rarely have the opportunity to attack. It consists mostly in dodging over and over again. When the boss transforms into a fish or a rhino, focus on defense. In the final phase of his attack sequence, the boss will revert to his normal boar form and fall to the ground. This is one of the few chances to inflict significant damage on him. Fortunately, Zhu Bajie lies there for quite a long time, and you can significantly extend this time by immobilizing him.
