Black Myth Wukong can be very overwhelming at first, throwing so many systems and mechanics at the player at once. On this guide page you will find a set of tips and tricks that will help you master the game during your first few hours with it. This will be especially helpful to you during combat, which makes up most of the game.
- Charge the focus bar
- Focus on dodging
- Don't be afraid to die
- Forge better equipment
- Use the spells
- Remember about transformations
Charge the focus bar
The combat in Black Myth Wukong is based on making enemies lose balance with powerful strong attacks. In the lower right corner of the screen is a focus bar that shows how much you have charged your attack. However, the charging process is very long and exposes you to enemy attacks. Fast strikes and perfectly timed dodges also charge the focus bar - meaning that after a successful series of fast attacks, you can perform a powerful heavy attack without having to charge it first.
Focus on dodging
Your main form of defense in Black Myth Wukong are dodges - by default, the playable hero cannot block or parry blows, so the entire game is designed around dodges. Dodging just before an enemy hits results in a perfect dodge, which momentarily slows down time and recharges your focus bar. Perfect dodges, however, require incredibly precise timing because the window for executing them is very small. They can also expose you to another attack while fighting humanoid bosses, whose attack combinations are very long.
Don't be afraid to die
Although Black Myth Wukong has many similarities to soulslike games, there is one key difference - you don't lose anything when you die. The only consequence of death is that you return to the previous altar - you will keep the currency you collected and all the experience you gained. So do not be discouraged and do not be afraid to die.
Forge better equipment
In the first chapter of the game, when you interact with one of the first altars, you will discover the ability to forge new pieces of equipment. There are different sets of equipment available in the game, and wearing a partial or full set provides a bonus unique to that set. Therefore, remember to check if you have unlocked a new equipment project that could make your gameplay easier.
Use the spells
One of the elements of your arsenal are spells - the first spell, Immobilize, is obtained during the fight with the first mini-boss of the game, Bullguard. This spell temporarily immobilizes an enemy, allowing you to quickly heal or charge up an attack. It also works on bosses. So don't be afraid to use it - you are limited only by the spell's cooldown and the mana bar, which is renewed at each altar.
Remember about transformations
Transformations are a powerful part of your arsenal, and you earn them by defeating the numerous mini-bosses you'll encounter throughout the game. They are divided into two types - a one-time powerful attack and a temporary mini-boss form. Use them whenever you can - a transformation has a separate health bar. This means that you temporarily cannot die and can freely attack the enemy.
