Last update: 02 September 2024
The Yellow Wind Sage is a mandatory boss you'll face in Black Myth Wukong. He is the final boss of the second chapter of the game, and you will face him after opening any of the several doors locked with keys obtained after defeating the Tiger Vanguard and the Stone Vanguard. On this page of the guide we've described how to defeat the Sage, listed its moveset, recommended strategy and rewards for killing him.
Yellow Wind Sage in a nutshell
- Stay close to the boss at all times to avoid baiting him into accurate ranged attacks.
- Dodge to the sides and stick to the boss' side or back.
- Using the Rock Solid spell to parry his stomps can topple the boss, giving you some time to attack freely.
- Interrupt your combos before the final hit, unless you've successfully staggered or toppled the boss.
- During the second phase stick to the middle of the arena, as invisible walls will appear - you can't go through them, but the boss can.
- Save all your transformations and special abilities for the final phase of the fight, where the winds get much worse, to finish the fight quickly.
Yellow Wind Sage's attacks
- Trident swings - the boss swings his trident, slashes twice quickly, then slams it down while causing an explosion of smaller tridents. Dodge to the sides - usually you only need to avoid the first and last hits, as the rest should go over your head.
- Downward thrust - the boss thrusts his trident into the ground, then tries to stomp on you. Dodge to the side to avoid the thrust - you can then dodge again to avoid the stomp or stand in front of the boss and cast Rock Solid to parry it and topple him.
- Wind slashes - the boss only uses this attack when he's far away. He fires three shockwaves you cannot deflect - you must dodge them. Stick close to the boss and he shouldn't use it.
- Phase two - when the boss loses 1/3 of his health he will start the second phase - he always starts it with this attack. He begins to spin the trident - step away from him. Then he disappears and sends two clones after you - the first fires a wave of exploding tridents, then swings a couple times. The second one lunges towards you, twice, while swinging his trident. Then the real boss appears, trying to stomp on you. He always appears where you aren't looking - you can either try to spot him before he attacks or cast Rock Solid to parry and topple him.
- Grab - the boss lowers his arms, then runs towards you and does a running kick. Though it may seem otherwise, this is a grab - with a very short animation at that. You must dodge to the side to avoid massive damage.
- Ground explosion - the boss plunges his glowing fist into the ground. After a moment the ground around him explodes - move away to avoid taking damage.
- Jumping charges - the boss jumps up and lunges at you while swinging his trident. He does this twice - be ready to dodge.
- Stone statue - the boss roars, summoning a huge stone statue to fall on you. It deals massive damage - you must dodge to the side just before it hits you or use transformation to tank the hit.
- Double strike - the boss swings horizontally, then slams his trident down. He also sometimes stomps first.
- Tornado - in the third phase of the fight, the boss summons a tornado that travels around the arena and will launch you into the air if you touch it. The tornado blends into the background - you have to look out for it at all times.
How to fight the Yellow Wind Sage?
The Yellow Wind Sage is probably the most difficult boss so far. He has a lot of health, deals a lot of damage, and in the second and third phase of the fight a sandstorm starts, which heavily hampers your visibility. Always stick close to the boss - at a distance he uses ranged attacks that are quite difficult to avoid. If you stick close to him and dodge to the sides you can easily bypass most of his attacks.
The Rock Solid spell will prove extremely useful in this fight. If you use it to parry the boss' stomps, which he uses often, you'll topple him and give yourself lots of time to attack him. Don't try to fully finish your light combos unless you've staggered or toppled the boss beforehand - your basic combo is too long to fit in the boss' openings.
In the second phase a sandstorm starts, heavily reducing visibility. Stay in the center of the arena - invisible walls have appeared that the boss can pass through, but you can't. If the boss is on the other side of the invisible wall he can still attack you, but you cannot attack him.
In the third phase of the fight, tornadoes will appear in the arena and lift you into the air if you get hit by them. The sandstorm gets worse, the tornadoes blend into the background and the boss becomes even more aggressive. Save all your transformations and buffs for this phase of the fight to end it quickly.
