The Great Sage's Broken Shell
- Plantain Fan will make the fight against the final boss much easier. Creating a hurricane will make the boss lose balance for a while, giving you plenty of time to attack him without punishment.
- The fight is divided into two phases. In each of them, you will be forced to fight in a completely different style.
- A cutscene may trigger during combat. This happens when the boss hardens his skin and captures you or if you heal yourself with the gourd in the second phase when the Great Sage's Broken Shell is low on health.
- You should use charged hits only when you are sure you will hit the boss. This means that it is recommended to use these attacks when the opponent is immobilized through various effects or is performing attacks himself. Otherwise he will easily dodge the blows and you will lose a lot of focus points.
- His dodges leave behind a golden projection of the boss that explodes after a short while. Don't stick around them, otherwise you will get hurt.
- The opponent is vulnerable to fire damage.
- Pay attention to the colors of his attacks. When his staff glows yellow, it's likely going to be a pretty fast attack. If it's red, it will deal much more damage, but will be somewhat slower than the others.
The Great Sage's Broken Shell's attacks
- Ring of fire - the boss will paint a fire circle, the same as your skill. If the boss remains there, he will become slightly stronger. If you step into the fire ring, you will receive damage.
- Boomerang stick - the opponent can throw his weapon at a long distance and on the way back it will attack anything in its straight path. Perform a side dodge to avoid getting hit in the face with it.
- Sequence of attacks and thrust - these are attacks very similar to your own thrust attacks. When the boss performs the final thrust, observe whether the staff does not change its color to red. That's exactly when you should perform a dodge sideways.
- Golden projection - the Great Sage's Broken Shell can create copies of himself with the use of perfect dodges. After a short while they disappear and explode, so move away from them.
- Pluck of Many - a technique similar to yours in which he will summon a large number of clones. The boss will perform three attacks using clones. The second one is a bit delayed, so don't spam the dodge button, just wait for the right moment.
- Aerial spinning attack - the Boss can jump high into the air and start spinning his elongated weapon in a straight line. When the staff glows yellow, the opponent will perform two quick strikes. The third is a bit slower and will be executed when the weapon glows red.
- Hardening skin - just like the Stone Monkey, the Great Sage's Broken Shell can harden their skin too. Hitting it will leave you vulnerable to a grab that deals a lot of damage. Stop attacking as soon as you notice that the boss is standing still.
- Taking the gourd - in the second phase, when the boss is low on health and you heal yourself with the gourd, he will immobilize you and trigger a cutscene. The boss will take a sip from your gourd and then resume the fight. It will not take away your gourd permanently, although it will heal only a small amount of the missing health.
- Pillar Stance - the Great Sage's Broken Shell can also use the Pillar Stance. He will extend his staff significantly. Once he's at the top of it, he will summon five projectiles, which you must dodge quickly. After they are fired, the boss will attack from the air and after a moment he will attack again, this time from behind his head.
- Flying on a cloud - it's a defensive move allowing you to get away from the enemy, although it comes down to various attacks, most often from above.
How to fight the Great Sage's Broken Shell?
If you have learned all your moves, then the fight should not be very difficult. In fact, most of the boss's attacks are improved versions of your own combos. Pay attention to the colors of the staff. Red indicates attacks that are slightly more delayed, but deal significant damage. The yellow ones are quick attacks.
Using the Plantain Fan is the key to victory. It will give you plenty of time to attack the enemy and will guarantee that your strong attack will land if you sacrifice the fourth level of focus. It can cause colossal damage, which is worth using to your advantage.
Attack the enemy whenever he performs his final attack of a sequence or when their staff is glowing red. Usually after these moves, he'll be vulnerable to your attacks for a moment. Immobilization will also work, but not for long. This boss is able to escape this much faster than other opponents.
The key to success is to skillfully avoid his blows and then counterattack. Perfect dodges will make your focus bar recharge faster, which in turn will give you more opportunities to perform a devastating attack.
Rewards
After defeating the final boss, you will not receive any rewards. However, you will unlock access to a new game mode where you can start over with previously acquired skills.
