Kang Jin Loong is a mandatory boss in the game's third chapter, encountered at the end of the Snow-Veiled Trail, specifically at Mirrormere. The boss has many ranged attacks and can fly. It's agile and elusive but vulnerable to charged attacks. On this page of our guide we've described the fight, the boss' moveset and the rewards for defeating it.
Kang-Jin Loong in a nutshell
- Kang-Jin Loong is vulnerable to stagger. Your light combo's final strike and charged attacks will nearly always stagger it, giving you lots of time to attack.
- The boss often rises into the air - you cannot attack it then. It also often tries to grab you or calls down lightning to strike the frozen lake. Be ready to dodge multiple times.
- The head is the dragon's weak point. Hitting it can easily stagger and stun it for a long time.
- Pillar Stance and Thrust Stance work the best due to their charged attacks' high range.
Kang-Jin Loong's attacks
- Mouth grab - the boss roars and raises its head, then flies towards you, trying to catch you with its mouth. The attack is very quick, so be ready to dodge to the side the moment it heads your way.
- Arm swing and electricity - the dragon plunges its arm into the frozen lake. After a moment it drags it across the eyes while creating electricity. Dodge to the side.
- Lightning bolts - the boss roars to the sky and calls down many lightning bolts. You can avoid them by slowly walking, as long as you don't walk straight into one. Dodge if necessary. Don't try to attack, as the boss is far away.
- Dragon breath - the boss lets out a damaging breath in a straight line or to the sides. Either run to the side or dodge at the right moment.
- Arm strike - the boss quickly strikes, then bounces off and backs away immediately after.
- Roar and tornado - when the boss' health drops below half it starts roaring while spinning. It creates a hurricane around itself which will damage you if you come near. Do not approach it during this attack.
- Tail swing - the boss usually finishes his combos with this. Watch it carefully and see if it's preparing a tail attack. He does it in a straight line, so dodge to the side.
How to fight Kang-Jin Loong?
Since the boss spends a lot of the fight airborne where it can't be hit, you must wait for a good time to strike. One such moment is when its head is near the ground. Usually a basic light combo is enough to stagger it.
Remember to use Pillar Stance or Thrust Stance. Their charged attacks will easily reach its head. If you spend enough Focus, you'll make the boss fall, opening it up for subsequent attacks. This is a good time to use your transformations.
Most of the boss's attacks are very well telegraphed. Lightning bolts don't strike immediately and you can see where they will strike, so you can get out of the way. Keep an eye on the boss though, as it can use its breath or swing its tail at any moment.
Watch out for it charging when it raises up into the air a little. If you don't react quickly enough, it will devour you for massive damage. Dodge to the side and you'll have lots of time to counterattack.
