The Whiteclad Noble is a main boss encountered in the Bamboo Grove, specifically at the Marsh of White Mist. This opponent is a wall who you will not overcome unless you've mastered the basics of combat. He has two phases, using long, quick and damaging combos. On this page of our guide we've explained how to beat him, listed his moves and rewards for defeating the boss.

Whiteclad Noble in a nutshell

1. The Whiteclad Noble has two phases. You'll have to make your way through two health bars. His moveset changes slightly in the second phase, though it's still similar to the one from the start of the fight.
2. The boss deals massive physical damage, especially when throwing his spear. You should therefore put on some better armor to reduce the incoming damage. The best choice regarding equippable spirits would be the Wandering Wight - for two reasons. Not only does it significantly increase your damage, it also deals massive damage. It's also easy to land after casting Immobilize at the boss.
3. The opponent often throws his weapon before teleporting towards it or recalling it. You should be careful when the boss throws his weapon.
4. The Whiteclad Noble has access to several long combos which make it difficult to attack him. You should therefore focus on avoiding his attacks and charging your focus meter.
5. Stick to the medium distance in each phase. If you're too close, he'll be more likely to use long combos. If you're too far away, he'll stand in place or slowly walk towards you. By staying at a medium distance you can bait him into repeating his most predictable attacks.

Whiteclad Noble's attacks

1. Nine-hit combo - the boss' signature attack, deadly at close range. The move starts with two quick horizontal attacks, then a thrust, then five quick swings. If you're close to him, try going for perfect dodges to charge your Focus. Try getting behind him to avoid the subsequent attacks.
2. Delayed spear sink - The Noble swings, sinking his spear down in the water. After a moment he sweeps, launching two shockwaves. Don't get too close to him then, as the attack can hit you when you least expect it and it deals a lot of damage.
3. Lunge, swing and thrust - the boss often closes his combos by lunging towards Wukong and swinging his spear. Then, after a brief moment, he quickly thrusts without any warning. Remember this move, as it can easily catch you off-guard. The attack is very linear, so dodging to the side should handle it.
4. Lunge and spear throw - sometimes, after the opponent jumps, he'll throw his spear at you after a moment. After avoiding it, remember he'll soon recall the weapon and it can still hit you on its way back to him. Try approaching the boss from the side, not from the front.

1. Triple spin and thrust - very similar to the lunge and thrust. The boss jumps up and spins three times before thrusting forward.
2. Water waves - The Noble occasionally swings his spear, creating water shockwaves. This is a projectile attack he uses at mid-range. You can easily perfect-dodge the waves, increasing your Focus and closing the distance. Try getting behind the boss.
3. Spinning kick - after throwing his spear the boss can lunge towards it and start spinning on it, dealing damage around himself. Once he's done spinning, he'll lunge at you again, striking twice. The last strike can be easily dodged and countered.

1. Thrust charge (second phase) - the boss uses this attack frequently, so you should learn to exploit it. Bait him by keeping at medium range. The boss first swings his spear with both hands before charging forward. A perfect dodge is easy to time and gives you lots of time to counterattack.
2. Spear sink (second phase) - this move is very similar to the one from the first phase. It's pretty much identical, except the first wave appears further from the boss and the second appears closer. The second wave is also a bit delayed. Avoid the attack the same way you did during phase one.

1. Ground slam and explosion (second phase) - the Noble raises his weapon with both hands, spins it and slams the ground, creating a small but powerful explosion and a shockwave in the player's direction. Stay away from the boss and dodge to the side.
2. Spear throw and recall (second phase) - the attack is similar to the one from the first phase, but rather than jump, the boss stands up on his tail while throwing the spear.

How to fight the Whiteclad Noble?

First of all, before the fight you should equip the Wandering Wight boss spirit. This will passively reduce incoming damage and can deal massive damage after casting Immobilize. Save your transformation for the second phase two, as you'll be able to play more aggressively without worrying over your health.

Always attack the boss after he ends his combo. Some combos last for very long and he's difficult to stagger during them. Countering his last attack in a combo will let you deal the most damage, as he's the most vulnerable then.

Remember to cast Immobilize frequently, as that's pretty much the only time you'll be able to use a full light combo. Remember to charge your attacks too, as they deal lots of damage.

Once you reduce the boss' health to zero, phase two will begin. Keep at a medium distance, sometimes even further away, to bait the boss into charging. This is his easiest attack to avoid. It also lets you get behind him and immediately go on a counter-offensive. You should use the transformation then, as to not worry about losing health.
