Last update: 21 August 2024
Lingxuzi is one of the game's main bosses you must face at the Guanyin Temple. The enemy uses slow, yet powerful attacks and jumps around the arena frequently. On this page of our guide we've explained how to beat him. We've listed the boss' moves, the recommended strategy and the rewards for slaying the beast.
Lingxuzi in a nutshell
- Lingxuzi is a giant wolf. His attacks have a lot of range, but most of them only have hitboxes in front of the boss. This means approaching the enemy from the side or the back may prove useful.
- Despite its size, the boss often jumps away from you and retreats to the nearby rooftops. This is the perfect opportunity to heal or buff yourself.
- The enemy also often wastes time by licking its paws. Attack whenever he does that.
- Strong, charged attacks can knock him off balance, giving you a free few seconds.
Lingxuzi's attacks
- Lunge and swing - the boss often opens the fight with this attack or does it when he's far away. After llunging he swings twice with his paws. You can dodge directly towards him to both avoid the attack and get behind him.
- Delayed paw swing - Lingxuzi raises his right paw and holds it up in the air for a moment. Then he takes a quick swing. Try to do a perfect dodge, as the boss does nothing after this attack and the resulting slow motion will give you a wider window to strike.
- Bite - Lingxuzi raises both front paws slightly and then does a short lunge forward while biting. Back away or dodge to the side. This attack comes out directly in front of him, so you can easily counter it after a successful evade.
- Howl - the wolf freezes and howls at the sky, creating a repelling, damaging shockwave. Do not approach him when he prepares this attack.
- Retreat and a quick strike - once you significantly damage the boss, he'll climb the nearby rooftops. This is the perfect moment to heal or prepare to avoid one of two possible follow-up attacks.
- Hard landing - the first is jumping off the roof and landing near you. The boss will create a shockwave where he lands. Try to dodge straight towards him.
- Spin attack - the second attack he can do is a quick lunge followed by three spins. The attack is difficult to react to, as the animation is near-instant. Be ready to dodge at any moment and don't approach the boss until he stops spinning. Meanwhile you can charge a heavy strike to hit the boss the moment the animation ends.
- Lunge and grab - when the wolf lunges and spreads its arms in the air, going in for a grab (or a hug), quickly dodge back. As he recovers, it's a good time to cast Immobilize and start wailing on him.
- Circle, swing and roll - Lingxuzi circles around you until he suddenly and quickly swings with his right paw. After this attack he falls on his back and tries to roll over you. To avoid damage you must dodge in the opposite direction to the roll.
How to fight Lingxuzi?
The giant wolf may seem a terrifying opponent at first with its wide variety of attacks. Despite this, many are predictable and easy to counter, so focus on the animations and on your defense.
Every time the boss licks its paw, it's a signal to go on an offensive. While licking its paw the boss is completely helpless for a while. The Immobilize spell will also help you deal even more damage.
Once he loses half health, the boss will retreat to the rooftop. If you have access to the Red Tides transformation already, do not use it before he climbs the roof. Lingxuzi will be there for a while and can't be accessed, so you'll just waste the transformation.
The Pillar Stance will prove useful during this fight. The level two charged heavy attack will let you strike the enemy while avoiding his hits during the charge-up. Pretty much all of the boss' moves, except for lunges, count as low strikes, which the Pillar Stance will help you avoid. Keep an eye on your stamina bar as to not fall off the staff.
