With great beauty comes a great toll on our devices. While Black Myth: Wukong offers gorgeous graphics, it requires a serious rig to enjoy all those fireworks with a decent framerate that would allow fluid gameplay, especially that this title is all about timing and reflexes. Many fans struggle with even getting into the main menu due to crashes or out of memory error, or experience other less game breaking issues related to audio, overheating CPU, or FPS drops. To get as much as possible from Wukong’s visuals, but also to combat low framerate, there is a super resolution slider. Here you will learn what it does and how you should configure it.

Super resolution slider in Black Myth Wukong explained

This nice sounding techy term is quite simple in how it works, if we don’t dive too deep into technicalities. In its basics, super resolution indicates the percent of your screen resolution that should be upscaled to the targeted one. For example, if you would like the game to run in 4K (3840 x 2160) and set the super resolution to 50, the GPU will render frames in FullHD (1920 x 1080) and apply an algorithm to enlarge it to 4K and fill in the gaps as best as it can. Setting it to 100 will produce the best quality image at your native resolution. As a sidenote, bear in mind that Wukong sadly does not allow to play in exclusive fullscreen mode.

Of course, the higher you set the super resolution value, the better the game will look, because the chosen algorithm will have more information to work with, yet that comes at the cost of performance. If you go lower with that number, the framerate will increase yet the quality of the video will drop. It’s all about finding the perfect balance between fluidity and fidelity. This is not a new feature, yet usually we can find it in the form of presets like “Quality”, “Performance”, and so on. It is also worth mentioning that the production implements Denuvo anti-tamper software, that is believed by many players to negatively impact the performance, yet who knows, maybe the developers will reconsider this decision at some point.

Super resolution in different forms

To quickly touch up on the previously mentioned mysterious “algorithm” – there are different methods of upscaling. DLSS is proprietary technology of Nvidia, FSR is open-source solution developed by AMD, and XeSS is created by Intel. All offer various ways of dealing with what they have been designed for, yet generally it’s the best idea to choose the upscaling method that’s made by your GPU’s chip manufacturer.

Nvidia’s upscaling method, DLSS, allows for frame generation, which can significantly boost your game’s framerate, yet it’s available only on their graphics cards from RTX4000 series.

Hopefully now you will be able to find the best choice for your setup, when it comes to super resolution setting in Black Myth Wukong.

To speed things up, you might have not found out the way to skip cutscenes yet, but it’s possible, believe it or not! If you need a hand with the game as it proves to be challenging, you can check out a guide that we have prepared. Also make sure to choose the best device to play this title, however be careful as PS5 controllers have a tendency to malfunction on PC in this production. Have fun and good luck!
