The Black Wind King is a fairly unique main boss. After beating him he'll flee to the peak of the mountain, where you'll face him again, transformed. Here we've described the first stage of the battle at the Cave Interior. On this page of our guide to Black Myth Wukong we've listed his moveset, a recommended strategy and rewards for the battle.
Black Wind King in a nutshell
- Black Wind King deals physical and fire damage. You should therefore equip your highest defense outfit, the Wandering Wight Spirit and the Fireproof Mantle acquired for defeating Elder Jinchi.
- The boss often teleports around by turning into black wind. It will harm you if you stand in its way.
- When the boss transforms, you can cast Immobilize to stop him and force him to materialize again.
- The opponent always appears in the centre of the arena at the end of his transformation. This gives you plenty of time to charge a strong attack from a safe distance.
Black Wind King's attacks
- Jump and double spin - the boss uses this attack very often, especially early on. He jumps into the air and thrusts his spear into the ground. After a moment he quickly spins twice. After the first strike you can fit in a quick attack and then perfect dodge.
- Black Wind - the opponent turns into black wind and becomes invulnerable. He'll try to ram you several times. Dodge to the side to avoid his charges. You can also prematurely end his transformation with Immobilize.
- Air burst - if you don't Immobilize the King out of his wind form, he'll soon start materializing in the center of the arena. When he appears, he'll cause a huge explosion. Do not approach him beforehand.
- Six hit combo - when the King harnesses black wind on his spear, he can perform this two-stage combo. The first two attacks are quick, the third overhead strike is delayed. Then he strikes three times in rapid succesion. This move also creates ranged projectiles.
- Vanishing and spear throw - the boss can also feint and create an illusion of himself, turning into black wind. He'll then attack by throwing his spear at you. Keep a close eye on the surroundings.
- Spear vault - a four hit combo. First the boss thrusts his spear down into the ground, then kicks you away while jumping into the air. In mid-air he swings quickly and widely, then causes a small explosion where he lands. Only start attacking him again after the explosion.
- Fiery breath - occasionally the boss will drink from his gourd and breathe fire in front of himself. The flames reach far, so dodge to the side.
- Healing - while not an attack, it's worth noting the boss can heal at several occasions. If you notice he's about to drink from his gourd, attack him quickly to interrupt him.
How to defeat the Black Wind King?
Right away you should use Red Tides to set the boss on fire. Later on he'll be transforming into wind very often, so your transformation would go to waste then.
If you're not transformed and the boss turns into black wind, you should use Immobilize. This will make him reappear. If Immobilize is recharging, avoid his attacks instead and watch out for the center of the arena. The boss will reappear there, causing a powerful explosion - if you stay away you can charge a heavy attack and hit him a moment after the explosion.
His combos don't change later on, remaining very similar to those from the beginning of the fight. Some of his swings though now fire ranged projectiles made of black wind. Keep this in mind - even if you're far away, you may need to dodge the wind anyway.
The boss is easy to stagger - usually a single light combo or a heavy attack spending a single focus point should be enough. This comes in handy especially when the King tries to heal or winds up a slower attack.
