When it comes to combat, it's not just your class's abilities that you'll be using to make it easier. At some point in the game, you will unlock access to runes - powerful, reusable items that have their own unique effects. If you want to know more about them and how they work in Dragon Age Veilguard, you can read about all of this here.
How to get runes in Dragon Age Veilguard?
You can find runes in chests. Sometimes they even lie on the ground, so it is worth exploring every corner of the room. What's more, you can also find them in the offer of some merchants (usually you need a high faction level to get them). Of course, this requires you to spend gold.
How to use runes?
Once you have found a rune you would like to equip, go to the Character tab. There, on the right side of the screen, you will notice a dagger into which you can insert runes. It doesn't matter which slot you put a rune in, as you'll be able to change them during combat anyway.
Remember that you can only have three runes equipped. Each of them gives you a passive bonus, but only one allows you to use an active ability (depending on which one you use during combat).
How to change active rune?
If you equip three runes, remember that you can only use the ability offered by one of them. Once you do this, each rune will go on cooldown, so you won't be able to use the skills from three runes in quick succession.
Notice that a smaller rhombus with the rune you currently have equipped will appear above your skills. To change a rune, press C key or left on the d-pad, and to activate it press V, L2 and triangle, or LT and Y.
