Minrathous is the capital of the Tevinter Empire, while Treviso is a port city located in northern Antiva. What these cities have in common is the unfortunate fate that can befall them if you do not help one of them. And unfortunately, the thing about choices in Dragon Age Veilguard is that sooner or later you'll experience the consequences of your actions. Therefore, on this page of the guide you will learn what will happen if you choose one city over the other.

When do I have to choose between Treviso and Minrathous?
Note that this choice will have significant consequences, so we recommend saving the game before making it. The catch is that you have to do this before the boss fight during Davrin's quest. After defeating the boss, a cut-scene will trigger in which you will immediately have to choose between Minrathous and Treviso.
This important choice between saving one city and abandoning another will appear in chapter 6, immediately after completing the main quest A Warden's Best Friend. During Davrin's recruitment mission, you'll have to face one of the bosses. Once you defeat him, you will automatically head to the Crossroads. This is where a cut-scene will trigger, informing you that both cities have been attacked.
Consequences of choosing Treviso or Minrathous
It's hard to say clearly which city you should choose. During the story you will learn that Treviso has no defence at all, but Minrathous has. The problem is that the dragon's attack is the perfect opportunity for the Venatori to stage a coup and take control of the city.
Depending on your choice, the city you didn't save, either Treviso or Dock Town, will be infected with the plague. You will need to rediscover any beacons you previously unlocked. Some streets will be blocked and there will be plenty of enemies. NPCs you living in that city may no longer appear there. Furthermore, you will permanently lose access to the Antivan Crows or Shadow Dragons faction trader. The upside, however, is that you will have a chance to earn additional rewards and complete additional quests - due to the change of the entire city.
It's also worth noting that for the duration of chapter 7, Lucanis (if you saved Minrathous) or Neve (if you saved Treviso) will be unavailable.
Choosing one of the two cities will also determine the order in which you complete tasks later in the game:
- If you chose Treviso, after returning from the Grey Wardens stronghold you will receive The Cobbled Swan Case main quest, and the quest Bloodbath (related to Lucanis) will appear as an optional one.
- Similarly, if you went to Minrathous, Lucanis's quest will be the main one, and Neve's quest (The Cobbled Swan Case) will be relegated to a side mission.
Regardless of the decision you make, you will be able to complete both quests.
What is Hardened?
Another consequence of the choice is that the character whose city you did not choose will gain a new mechanic - Hardened.
Such a character will build a relationship with you much slower. Additionally, they will stop using supporting skills. The upside to this, however, is that their damage-dealing abilities will be much more effective. Additionally, if Lucanis is the one who is hardened, he will automatically choose the more ruthless option during a major decision in his personal storyline. Regardless of your choice, all companions can still earn the Hero of the Veilguard status, which will be very useful in the endgame.
